I went a few years ago. The hotel was excellent and the parks were good but they just don't compare to Florida. Its also expensive, I'm sure it would be cheaper to go to Florida and you could stay there for longer then DLP as there is so much more to do. :D

I cant help it, the customer sevice there was crap this year, no one seemed interested, the queue to get in was huge as they only had one turnstyle open, its as though they are trying to run on skeleton staff, that is proberbly one of the reasons they made so much profit with such a low attendance, as well as the stupid express pass thing

PARIS (World Leisure News) – Disneyland Paris in France will launch its newest attraction, Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, this weekend. The interactive dark ride features a number of two-seater space cruisers fitted with dual laser pistols which riders can use to shoot targets and collect points. The ride is located in the park’s Discoveryland and is part of the park’s FastPass system, allowing guests to pre-book their place on the attraction for a specific time. Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast is the second in a series of new additions planned for Disneyland Paris, following the announcement last year that Disney is to invest 240m euro (£168m, US$315m) in new attractions over the next three years. As part of the investment program, Walt Disney Studios Park will see the opening of Toon Studios in 2007 and the Tower of Terror – a white-knuckle ride in a mysterious Hollywood hotel – in 2008. “The launch of this ride is part of the multi-year expansion of our resort offering,” said Andre Lacroix, chief executive officer of Disneyland Paris. “Each year until 2008 we will be bringing more rides and attractions to our resort. These investments, combined with an innovative marketing and sales strategy should set the foundation for sustained and profitable growth.”

I think Disneyland Paris is great for a couple of days (or even 3 max) but then you would have exhausted everything. DH is right, it is expensive and as far as value for money is concerned, it doesn't even come close to Orlando. It would probably be best appreciated if you'd never been to Disney World.

We went to DLP a few years back before they built the studios and it was ok (1998). The biggest moan I had was the people were miserable and the weather was rubbish. The park was OK but I don't think at that time certainly it had that "Disney" feeling. It might have changed now though. :)

We went in 2001 and they were still miserable. Ahhhh, the jolly old French! You are right, it didn't have that special Disney feel to it. I remember trying to converse with Tigger and I don't know about Disney cast member he would have been better placed on 'Allo Allo'. Still, let's hope they've cheered up a bit by now!!! :)

Hi folks it's me again!

I am just back from DRP, we went for 4 nights which gave us 3 full days in the parks.
We stayed in one of the partner hotels the MyTravel's Explorers, it was a decent 3 star hotel.
The partner hotels had a regular complimentary bus service which took about 8 minutes to get to the park.
There were 3 areas The main Disneyland park, Disney studios & Disney village.

Disney village is a small version of Downtown Disney in Orlando, it is not great but it is necessary as it is the focal point for most people that are staying on site for food and entertainment in the evenings. It is not that cheap, I suspect this is because it is remote, it is also France which is notoriously expensive.

Disney studios, this is a very small park which seems like a work in progress, there are two rides currently being build in this park, one is the Tower of Terror due to open in 2008 the other looks like an indoor coaster I am not sure what this is or when it will be ready.
It is an alright park, the shows are good and compete well with those in Orlando. The parade is very short but I think this is because they are restricted for space.
The park does need more attractions to keep peoples interest, the two new rides will help be only in the short term.

The Disneyland park is nearly as good as the Magic Kingdom, Fantasyland and Discoveryland are well populated with attractions, the other two areas could do with a bit of work, all in all it was a good competitor with the Magic Kingdom.

I would happily recommend this resort to everyone for a few days. Anymore than this and you will soon get a little board and you bank account will certainly drain quickly.

One downside, which was similar to Universal in Salou is that Europeans are very rude when it comes to waiting in line and what little staff there are do not seem to care to much. So in turn you have to be equally pushy.

Mr Orlando

We went to DLP 3 years ago in August when we were staying in Paris and it didn't come close to being anywhere near as good as Florida. We only went in Magic Kingdom for one day and found it dirty with litter on the paths, the food was cold (we took it back cos it was so bad) and there just didn't seem to be that disney feeling to it - they must have forgotten to sprinkle the disney dust. I did like Cinderella's castle though - you could go inside. I know plenty of people that have been year after year and they really love it but they have never been to Florida.
I think that once you have visited Florida nothing will ever compare.

i went to dlp in 2000 and it was a big disappiontment. seemed to be no crowd control with poeple just pushing in all the time. litter was a real problem as well. if u have not been to florida i would say u will engoy dlp. if u have been to forida stick with what we all know is the greatest family holiday ever. :) :) :)

Hiya guys & gals

Took my daughter to DLP a few years back in 2003 i think it was. Her birthday is in December so we did the 3 nights , 4 days in DLP staying at the cowboy resort. One of the reasons i wanted to do this is because most of the Christmas magic seems to have disappeared these days with it all being retail motivated & profit margins and what with the UK not having a white Christmas since way back the kids these days miss out on a lot of the old magic.
This place at Christmas time put the magic back into Christmas bigtime, it was freezing which it what Christmas is all about, the fake snow they had shooting out of the chimney's of the house's in the streets we walked down was a great idea. All the Characters were Christmas dressed and although my daughter was 8 and had sort of grown out of believing in Father Xmas the parade where Father Xmas come's down main streeet with his sleigh & all the reindeer, and then magic's all the lightrs on Cinderella's Castle made her think twice that was for sure.
I did DLP before i went to Florida and i think it's a great stepping stone if your unsure of jumping straight into Orlando, it give's you a little taste of what Orlando has to offer. Your right when you say DLP was expensive eating out & drinking but i half expected it as much. I loved my time in DLP dressing up as a cowboy & drinking in the saloon was a blast and it made Christmas of 2003 that little bit more magical for me & my daughter.

The only downside is they built in in France and there customer service's need a lot to be desired !!!

sunnygirl
20-06-2006, 02:12 PM
Hi McFluffy

You are right. DLP is great as a stepping stone but I don't think they teach them how to smile!!! :D

We went in 1997 when my daughter was two and they were as miserable as sin - sort of puts me off going back.

Mc Fluffy
20-06-2006, 02:26 PM
Your right the staff in Orlando are more approachable, friendly, playful & cheerful than DLP staff by miles. But i heard the DLP staff are locked in cupboards at night and have to eat frogs legs on toast also aren't allowed to leave the park once there employed there
(it's like the Hotel California, you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave)

So it's no wonder there a miserable bunch !!!

Seriously i heard there was a dispute over pay at the DLP park last year saying how little they get paid compared to there Orlando counterparts, minimum wages won't get the best out of your staff no matter how hard your poke them.

Either way we had a great time, but can't wait to get back to Orlando on Aug 11th wooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

This appears to be new, haven't come across it before. Only Star Wars fans will truly appreciate how cool this is!

The Jedi Training Academy is a 30-minute session that takes place at the Tomorrowland Terrace. The Jedi Master and his assistants select 25-30 kids from the audience to participate in a light saber training exercise - robes and plastic light sabers are provided. Those who successfully complete the training are proclaimed to be Padawans, and receive a certificate.
The show begins with a fanfare of the Star Wars music. A group of robed and hooded figures come down the ramp from the restaurant to the stage, and throw back their hoods and robes to reveal that they are Jedi. The Jedi Master performs a short and very acrobatic light saber routine on stage, before announcing that they are looking for those strong in the Force to become prospective Padawans.

The Jedi Master selects kids from the audience, and his assistants outfit them in a brown Padawan robe and they receive a plastic light saber. Ten of the children are up on stage with the Jedi Master, while the rest are on ground level with his assistant light saber instructor. The kids take the "Jedi Oath", and are cautioned to remember the three rules: Remember your training position, Be mindful of your light saber, and No falling off the stage.

Step-by-step the kids are instructed to perform a short light saber routine (don't worry, Anakin didn't get it right his first time, either). The Jedi Master keeps things moving along with an entertaining patter that the adults will also enjoy - including a few "Jedi jests."
Suddenly the Jedi sense a disturbance in the Force, and take all of the kids over to the side. Two stormtroopers run down the ramp and onto the stage, which begins to rise in a cloud of mist...and Darth Vader comes into view. He informs the Jedi Master that he is there to turn the students to the Dark Side, which of course the Jedi Master informs him that he will never do, especially since he is outnumbered. But then Darth Maul also appears on stage wielding his two-bladed light saber.

To prove themselves the students must take on either Vader or Maul, using the routine they have just learned. Fortunately the Jedi Masters are standing by to remind, help, and encourage the kids to follow-through. The entire thing is accompanied by appropriate light saber sound effects, and dialog from Darth Vader and the Jedi Master.

After all the students have had their turn Darth Vader and Darth Maul are forced to admit defeat and the Tomorrowland Terrace stage descends, taking them with it.

The kids are proclaimed to be Padawans, and after they return their robes and light sabers they receive a certificate

Apologies for the obvious plageurism but too tired to rewrite all that!!

How cool is this?? If only they would do this at WDW especially on Star Wars Weekends.

 You're kidding me!!! OMG we missed it? We actually went to MGM on a Star Wars Weekend!! Is this a daily thing BC as it is at DLP? or just on the special weekends? I didn't see any literature which mentioned it. Having said that, my youngest has only just started to get in to Star Wars. We would have taken more notice of events if he'd been into it before we went.

p.s. Raider, I know the DLP one is restricted to 5-12 yr olds, sorry!! I think one of the trivia competitons at WDW is aimed at the older fan though. Not that you're old or anything... :D

We had a good time. We went by Eurostar which was so easy. On the way there the train went directly to Disney and on the way back we had to change at Lille but it wasn't difficult. We had 2and a 1/2 days - 1 day for Walt Disney Studios and the rest for the Disneyland Park. We found this was plenty of time for us and we got to do a few of the rides many times. I was happy because they have the Buzz Lightyear ride that they have at Magic Kingdom! :D

For fans of the Tower of Terror ride at MGM, they are also building this in DLP :D

On the down side, the food at our hotel wasn't brilliant and I came down with a chest infection while we were there, things are expensive and it rained for a whole day but my son enjoyed it and says he likes it as much as Florida (I have to disagree).

I would go again if they had a special deal on but I would probably try a different hotel next time.

Hi Veronica, it takes about 3 hrs by Eurostar which I think is good. On the way back when we had to change we had a 45 minute stop at Lille so that took around 4 hours.

When the new international terminal and rail link at St Pancras is open in November, the journey time from London to DLP will be down to around 2hr 40mins, making it an even better bet than ever. Having taken the Eurostar a number of times from both Waterloo and Ashford, I can vouch for what a great service it is - what rail travel really ought to be, all the time.

I had thought of eurostar but wasnt sure. Flying is a good option for me but im not sure if the station is accessible at the airport & what general accessibility is like. I have heard france is not very wheelchair accessible.

Thanks for the info
