Been to Thailand, both North and South
Done the usual hotspots, Phuket, Koh Samui, Bangkok, Chang Mai, Chang Rai, Hua Hin, Pattya
1 Phuket, okay, but get a lot of pestering from cab drivers, lively night life, fair beaches, plenty of cheap resturants
2 Koh Samui, lovely place, beautiful beaches, very good night markets
3 Chang Mai, Chang Rai, nice if you are into religeon, there are hundreds of temples, all at the top of hills, plenty of jungle trips, elephant rides, trekking
4 Hua Hin, VERY quiet coastal town, ideal if you want a laid back holiday
5 Bankok, big, noisy, dirty, its just a capital city, great for 1-2 nights then get outta town
6 Pattya, my fav place, not a bad beach, plenty of fresh fruit, fresh food, lots of different resturants, nice bars, they got 2 show places (Alkazar and Tiffany's) that are well worth a visit, but hold on to your wallats, have your photo taken with the lady boys (not as tacky as it sounds
Jomtien beach is a short ride away, it has a bigger beach but bigger condos
Things to note, most methods of transport are either Tuk Tukor a flat bed truck with a roof, negotiate a price before getting on a Tuk Tuk, flat bed is a flat fare (unless it late at night (then its up to negotiations)
If you have to get a cab, you got a choice, haggele or get them to turn the meter on, either way its not bad compared to western cabs or western style of travel
With a change in the law, all bars shut at midnight now, but a few still hang on for a few hours more, depends on how much you are spending
The Thai's are friendly and always have a smile, quite a few speak english, tip when ever you have a meal, its worth it if you ever return, you will ALWAYS be remembered by how well you tipped
Give it a try, its warm, sunny, and very friendly, please yourself where you go, but just remember there are NO disney parks there, so it might be hard to keep kids entertained there ;)
