Terror at Theme Park
NORTH YORKSHIRE, UK (Liverpool Echo) A toddler was just seconds from being crushed when a lamppost fell on her pushchair during a trip to a theme park. Two-year-old Callie Marsh-Clark had just been taken out of her pram when the lamppost toppled over. Victoria Evans, a family friend who was holding the pram's handles, was dragged to the floor and needed hospital treatment for back injuries. It took four adults to lift the post off the pushchair, which was smashed to pieces. Callie's mother, Rebecca Clark, of Netherley, today demanded an investigation into why the metal column at Flamingo Land, in North Yorkshire, fell over. Ms Clark was visiting the theme park with her children Callie and one-year-old Thomas as part of an 80-strong group from Netherley's Woodlands community center on Wednesday. Ms Clark said: "I had just taken Callie out of her push-chair. Two seconds later, a wrought iron lamppost fell and crushed her pram into the floor. For a second, I forgot she was out of the pram and I just sank to the floor. Staff took the lamppost and the pram away. They gave me £100 to replace it and refund our tickets, Ms Clark continued. "But they do not know what caused the lamppost to fall over and I think that needs investigating. Flamingo Land refused to comment today saying the "alleged incident... may be the subject of a frivolous claim for compensation". But in an email to Woodlands community center, senior park executive Elliot Richards said: "Please accept my sincere apologies for this incident, which clearly could have been more serious. To date, we have still not established exactly how the lamp post fell." Mr Richards also said in the email he was "unconvinced" by Ms Evans' alleged back injury and that "Flamingo Land would deny liability with regards to this".
