Hi,

I am thinking of buying my girlfriend a ticket to swim with the dolphins when we goto Orlando at end of April. Has anyone else done this and what are your views?

Reading contrasting things on the web!

Thanks

Lee

Hi Les,
We were at Discovery Cove in Mid Feb . Although it is probably one of the most expensive days out ever my family ( 2 adults 2 kids) had a fantastic day. The 2 kids did the dolphin swim which was a magical experiance for them . The complex is just superb & the staff make you feel special all day. The highlight for me was snorkelling amongst the tropical fish & rays . You do need the wetsuit in the salt water pools ie. the dolphin swim & tropical fish pools but the tropical river & swimming lagoon with waterfall is heated & fresh water. The food is also first class & probably the best thing is the lack of crowds due to the no's been restricted to a max of 1000 people per day. I'd go for it . You won't regret it.

Hi Edward,

Thanks for the info, have been to Florida before, and as mentioned in another post travelled with Travel City Direct with no complaints! Watched some programmes on TV about the dolphins and it still seems too much money for what it actually is?

I cant explain it, but basically for your £150 you get a day in a theme park thats nothing but tropical fish, etc - that you can swim with!!

The drawbacks? The price, and you only get one allocated time slot to swim with the dolphins - and that only lasts 20 minutes. But where else can you get to swim with dolphins? It's well worth it - not necessarily every time you go to florida, but as a one off, its incredible.

We paid £129 each I agree its a bit to lay out but thats all day incl lunch, costumes and its a nice relaxing day. We still talk about it now and would definately do it again. Friends of ours are going to do it in May. Her mother was so enthused that she has even learnt to swim in a short period so that she can swim with them.

I would also recommend the photo video package it is expensive but what a momento

Hi Lee, DO IT, we went to florida 2 yrs ago to get wed and my hubby paid for us to do the dolphin swim for my birthday, You arrive at 8.30am and are welcome to stay in the park till 5.30pm. You are greeted and welcomed and have a complementry photo taken, (which you collect in a frame when you leave) they supply EVERYTHING that you could possibly need, towels, goggles, snorkles, shampoo ect ect ect. The swim lasts about half an hour but you get plenty of one to one time and loads of photos are taken, when you finish the swim you can also snorkle with tropical fish and swim with the sting rays (stings taken out) theres also a slow flowing stream that goes under a small water fall and in the other side is a tropical bird thing full of birds and small animals that you can feed. Lastly the price also includes a 3 course meal which is superb that you eat on a terrace with a tropical band playing. If you get the tickets from this site then there only 139 and that includes 7 days into seaworld, which you also dont want to miss. It was the most wonderfull pressie my husband has ever given to me, nothing will ever beat it, we have our photos framed on the wall and all our friends coment. the dolphins come right up yo you and you cup your hands and they swim into them so that you can kiss them. It is not crouded and you get to spend real time with the dolphins as there are no more than 8 people with the dolphins at a time. we are going back this year and taking our daughter and truthfully i would pay 3 times as much for the experience. We have a promotional video that i could try to copy for you, e-mail me at www.janemerlaine@aol.com if you are interested

Hi, when you swim with the dolphins there are 2/3 people videoing then it is edited and shown to you, there are about 6/8 people at the swim and the cameras follow the dolphin so you end up with other people in your video but you also dont miss ant of your encounter either. They aslo take loads of photos, some that you pose for, we paid 69$ for 3 10by 6 photos (all different) the video and 2 photo key rings (also different pictures) if you decide to buy more then its cheaper to get the disk, thats what we will do this year, they also keep all your images on file for 5yrs so you can re-buy them at a later date. This year friends of ours went and split into two parties for the swim each takeing video and photos of the other, which was a good idea and discovery cove dont mind, we were a bit surprised at the cost of the video ect so its nice to be pre-warned. i dont need to say have a good time as you will.
