Hi,
has anyone booked through Travel City Direct before? We ( 2 adults, 2 kids 6 & 10)are going to Florida in August 2006 for 3 :) weeks. We are going for a 2 centre holiday, 2 weeks in Orlando and 1 week to recover by the coast somewhere. We were all set to book via Virgin but have been told to wait until Tavel City release ther 2006 brochure as they are a lot cheaper than Virgin (quoted us £4250  for everything exept theme park tickets). I had never heard of them before so would like to know if anyone has good or bad experiences with them. Or indeed if anyone can reccomend any other operator.

Thanks

Oh dear! I know they are cheap, & the reason why is that with Virgin you get seat back tv's, with TCD there is ONE screen for the whole cabin!!!!!!! Your kid's wont be able to see it. Im 5ft4 and I couldnt see it. So for 9hrs you will be BORED STIFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get a portable dvd player for them to watch.

It's too late now!!

It will also be mega hot in August, but you will have a brill time.

We bought a House out there last year & went with TCD.

Just think about it this way, you will have more spending money as you have paid less!

Hope this hasnt put you off.

We have been with virgin and tcd. They are both very good tour operators, but if you get to the travel agents as soon as the new 2006 brochures are available and nag them for their best price I can guarantee the travel agents will find you a cheaper price than tcd. We are going with Thompson this year and it has definitelt worked out cheaper. This is because the hotel we ant to stay in (holiday inn nikki bird) isn't one of the tcd hotels. Hope this helps.

Me and my family have been traveling with Travel City Direct for many years now and i have never had any regrets. this year we are traveling again in october, staying at the highland reserves in a 3 bed villa. 6 adults a 7 seater van £3110. beat that. travel city are introducing brand new planes to there fleet. and belive it or not Travel City have 1" extra leg room than Virgin and are half the price. dont worry you will love it. if you log onto the virgin web site and enter your holiday details you will find it is around £3000 more expensive with virgin. at the moment they have some great offers £69 for 14 days at universal its better than Disney. but the kids still love Disney try both. Universal have loads more rides and 3D adventures and a great night life. try Shrek 4D it is the best.

Danny GO with them mate. me and my family have been with them for a while and have no regrets. This year i am taking 2 extra people. ring travel city direct on 01253 757756 they have got universal tickets on sale buy 3 days for £69 and get 11 free. unbeatable. Try going later on in the year its not as busy because you could find that its over 100 and humidity at 100% in queues of up to an hour. if you go in sept or oct its around 75 - 80 and waiting times in the parks are half. and its cheaper. take my word for it Travel City are ok. email me (mick) hnumnuts21@aol.com and i will try to give you some tips

DannyI am sitting here nice and chilled after booking with travelcity direct tonight for 2 wks next april with my 10yr old son who is disabled and my friend who is bringing her 10 yr old disabled son. I have delt with a chap called kier haynes in swansea and he was brilliant, my very good friend across road went with travel city in oct 04 and she said they were excellent, thats the best i can do right now, but its nice to get feedback so i hope this is of some comfort. We even gonna swim with dolphins. its cost £2,860.00 not including passes but i still think thats good, also hotel ramada in maingate - kids upto 10 eat free with adults and shuttle buses inc for most parks. I also off to zante in 6 weeks and just booked to go to falaraki in aug today too so i'm well happy, have a great holiday, also i think to hot in aug best time is april, might see u there. carmen

Hope you enjoy as we have and have done for the last seven years..

I have travelled with travel city direct and Virgin but would fly Virgin time and time again much better by far for service, seats, children, and everything. I am due to travel again in November of this year booked Virgin flights with Charter Travel and they were very cheap £269 per adult and £169 per child + Tax, they also sorted car hire for me Gold cover for the price of silver and I booked the villa through kissimmeedreamvilla.com 6 bed villa at an excellent price.

Danny, I too cannot recommend Travel City Direct enough. We went in 2002 and are going back again this year (2005) with them. Flying out August 26, coming back September 10th, and we've booked everything with them - Flights, transfers to Disneys All Star Movies Resort (no car), two weeks hotel (Movies), 14 Day disney tickets, 3 day/ 2 park universal tickets (which I bought before the new tickets came out), Discovery cove on September 5th (which includes entry to Seaworld at some other point in time), and travel insurance. Theres just me and my girlfriend, and the whole lot has cost £2310. Or there abouts.

If youre travelling with kids, then yes, they may not be able to see the 1 screen per cabin, but use some of the money you've saved to buy a portable DVD player - it'll have more use's over the next few years!!

Alot of the kids on the last flight also slept a whole lot - if they were anything like us (and we were 19 then, we'll be 22 this time), they WILL NOT sleep for about two days before the trip due to pure excitement. Come flying time, they're just about worn out enough for a sleep. Books and Gameboy's (Or DS's, or whatever they're called) will also kill alot of time if they have them.

I guess the most important thing here is that yes, virgin have seatback TV's, which are great for the first and last ten hours of your holiday - but the 14/21 days in the middle? Theyre identical no matter who you go with, and Travel City are just so much cheaper, it'd be stupid to go with anyone else.

we travelled with tcd last year to florida and we had the telly's on the ceiling as with other planes i have been on.there was not one big screen for everyone.
as a whole the holiday was brilliant with tcd, so much so that i had no hesitation in booking with them again and we are off to florida in may.the first time we went to florida was with thomas cook.there was only 37 people on the plane and after take off we could sleep or sit where we liked.but we paid for it on the flight home.we had an air 2000.words cannot describe how small this plane was and we were crammed in like sardines.29in leg room (tcd sandard 31ins).there was no room to put your overhead luggage and i travelled for 9 hours with my feet on top of my bag.all this with 31ins legs.it was dreadful.
i too checked the prices for virgin and i just couldn't warrant spending the extra money on a flight when it could be better spent elsewhere.i can thoroughy recommend travel city direct.

We travelled with them two years ago they were fab. We are going with them again this year all 17 of us (in May) and we recommended them to all our friends who have booked at various times of the year. Virgin are very good but pricey, unfortunately.

Cant wait its gonna be fun!!

[ Hi Danny
we are going this year for three weeks also, i reluctantly contacted travel city just to see what they would be like only to find out they only do two week holidays and would not entertain going over that !! Also i don't know if you have been before but they only fly into Sandford International airport (to the North of Orlando) to which is a pretty basic airport and not as good as Orlando International which is where you would fly from if you went with the likes of Virgin or Ba etc !

Hope this Helps

Steve

Hi, we have been lucky enough to visit florida 7 times and every time with travel city, there brilliant, we fly out again in sept on my daughters birthday and there even supplying a surprise cake for her, we are going for two weeks, flight, car hire and appartment for 2 adults and 2 kids aged 9 & 10 and its costing 1919 including all taxes and car insurances (cant find the pound sign, sorry ) you must agree that is a bargain price. We also looked at virgin and would even have been staying at the same appartments, and were quoted over 5000 for the time that we wanted to travel, so we stuck with who we know. Travel city also have an agency right in the airport so are there to help as soon as you step off the plane and also in one of the local shopping malls. There is also a phone line that is answered 24/7 if you have any problems. On our last visit one of our suit cases was crushed and no longer useable but because i had taken travel city insurance they delivered a new (better) one to my hotel within 2 days. Were staying at likitiki which doesnt look so good in the broucher but go online to likitiki.com and you will see the standard of the hotels that travel city use, as you can see we think there great, happy holiday

Hi , I'm going with TCD again this year Sept and it was a very good deal i got from them . Have travelled to Orlando with them before although it was with a different airline (my travel) this year we will be going on the TCD Jumbo from glasgow airport , have been told that the aircraft has seat back tv's for everyone so i can't complain and of course FREE drinks , headphones and meals so no complaint's on that part . Although reading some reviews from other web site they have a poor record as regards to flight delays so fingers crossed and hopefully everything will go smoothly . Hope you have a good holiday as i'm sure i will ....

Hi Danny

Have no worrys we have used them for 4 trips to Florida now , they give a totally professional service second to none.
We are of again in August again using TravelCity direct.
If I could give you one tip that is to book the lounge when offered for the return trip. This gives you and your family extra comfort at Stamford airport while waiting for the return flight. You get free drinks ( Soft ) use of the cinema, internet, reading room and a kids play room all free you can even pick your own movie to watch. All for £10 per adult £8 per child well worth it.
Attraction tickets are also cheep from Travel City .......Give them a try you will not be disapointed.

We Went With Travel City Last Year And They Were Generally Very Good. However, They Issue Vouchers For The Attractions And You Have To Queue Up At The Gate To Exchange Them For Tickets. The Year Before When We Went, We Bought The Disney Tickets Etc. Through Attraction Tickets Direct And They Issue Actual Tickets Which Are Much Better Than Vouchers Since You Don't Have To Queue When You Get There. We Will Go With Travel City Again But Will Use Attraction Tickets Direct For The Theme Park Tickets

Thanks for all the replies. Like someone else has mentioned TCD have told me that they cannot give me a price for 3 weeks  as it means they have to use another airline. So we have booked through Virgin, taking advantage of their school holiday promotion (£400 discount)which has now ended. We have compared the price we have paid with Travel Agents and found it to be very competitive. No doubt someone will tell me we could have paid less somewhere else but the wife is happy which has to be a result!

hi ive used travelcity direct for most of our hols to florida would not travel with anyone else, but im not sure if you can book for a three week hol and use their branded plane which will be the cheapest. you can use them to book a sheduled flight but will work out more expensive as there packages are always for two weeks. good idea having a wwks rest a the coast we tend to do a week and a week. there 2006 brouchure is out now. aug is hot and wet christmas is better and believe it or not depending on which weeks in aug you plan to go it can be cheaper to go at christmas.
their planes are fine economy seats same as as most airlines, their new planes have seat back tv in economy. but you can upgrade your seats for more room but can work out a lot for a large family. my advice you wont get a cheaper quote for a two week hol than with travel city we used them 10 times. got ripped off with airtours when we went with them and also virgin.
hope this is of some use.

Hi Danny, I have just booked with tcd myself for the first time and got a terrific price for jan 2006 for 6 adults, this will be our 5th time in florida always with airtours (1st class sevice each time) but was recommended tcd by a friend who always travels with them and has had great service from them I would say with the price savings give it a try and put your money to better use in florida and have a ball my only concern would be travelling in august because of park Q's and heat we prefer to go anytime between september and january (dont go over christmas and new year, very very busy) when its still warm and very little waiting time for the rides, karen.

Hi!
Ive booked flights for TDC in July/August. What are they like? I usually use AA bit left it until it was to late this time, the price were sky high! LOL Whats the lounge like in Sanford and is there a similar thing at Manchester?

book it, its great. They give you a wristband to wear on arrival so that you can come and go, (shops ect) there are lockers for your luggage and complimentary drinks and snacks, large playstation for kids and movies for adults (also kids movies) a nice quiet lounge with newspapers and magazines. The flights are called from there so you can sit and relax. Well worth the money. They have one a Gatwick also so it may be worth phoning Manchester to find out, good luck.

Had some reservations flying with TCD after looking at various websites, but would 100% fly with them again!!We flew 5th til 20th May 05.They were at least £2000 cheper than most operators and were really helpful. My wife is disabled and they made sure she had all she needed before we flew, got us ground floor accomodation at th Enclave Suites-which is a great place incase you read otherwise-and made the whole process very simple!OK,so the plane doesn't have seatback tv's-big deal!Use the money you save, get out there and have fun!My children are two at 14,one at 12,one at 9 and they coped without tv ok.We flew Premier Gold with Airtours last October-with seatback tv's that didn't even work!Love Florida, love TCD,and will book again VERY soon.

went with travel city direct in 2003 and stayed in a villa in Highland reserve, kissimee. Holiday was very good except for 24 delay coming home when their plane broke down in uk. TCD were very good and put up whole plane in a 4*hotel in Sanford for the night all expenses paid. Am going with Virgin this year though as you can fly out of Miami and TCD you have to go back to sanford. Happy holidays :)

Have not stayed in Orange Tree but have stayed in Claremont. A bit out in the sticks, end of 192 and Highway 27 turn right and travel for approx 1ml. Very quiet, nice area. Quick tip if going to theme parks head in other direction towards Davenport lakes and pick up I 4 from there cuts out 192, bit further but alot faster less traffic, have a good trip.

Think before you travel with Travel City.
They have no regard for families.
When I booked with them, like all companies offering services, they could not do eneough.
When our tickets came through there was a letter asking us for an extra £70 to sit together!
In all my long and varied flying life I have never come across an airline who tries to split families up. When we got to the airport, most of the people had excepted the con, paid their money and we (my wife, 13year old daughter and myself were split up for the flight out.

We've just booked a 3-Bed Villa with Heated pool through TCD for w/c Oct 22 this year. As there are no details as to which site/area we are in, I was wondering what the quality of the Villa's is like with TCD. Also, do they tend to be on Gated Community's as I am a little concerned about security, especially as it states that the Villa's don't normally have Safe's.
Secondly, we've booked the Upper Deck seats for £129 per person, I was wondering if anyone else had used these seats, and are they worth it?

Secondly, we've booked the Upper Deck seats for £129 per person, I was wondering if anyone else had used these seats, and are they worth it?We travelled with TCD a few years ago. Booked the upper deck I think it was £99 extra each.
The seats where the exact same as those in economy (same pitch and size).

The benefits where a smaller cabin with an age restriction, pre-booked seats and 30kgs luggage allowance.
They also said that you got free headphones and bottled water but this was no different to economy.

The smaller cabin and the age restriction was superb, the cabin was very quiet (bar the drone of the engine noise of course).
The extra luggage allowance is always useful when going to Orlando.
The only problem we had was with the pre-booked seats, they gave us both isle seats which was a bit of a pain getting spilt up after pre-booking seats. (They told us after the fact that these where the last two available seats).

All in all if I was to use them again I would consider the upper deck again.
Saying that I do not expect to use them again, being in Northern Ireland I have found it a little cheaper to book direct with airlines and hotels.

Steve Bott
13-06-2005, 08:09 PM
Thanks for that Conor. They now advertise the Upper Deck seats as having 34" pitch as opposed to the standard 32" - so hopefully there will be a noticeable difference.

Hi, went with tcd aug/sept 04. Stayed at Orange Tree in 5 bed villa, superb.
Only downfall of tcd was we had to stay in the villa for 2 days during a hurricane but the only info we had was from the tv, we thought that tcd would contact us to advise what to do. They didn't.
We will probably book with them again for next year, still getting prices as there are 16 of us going.
when booking a villa with tcd, go for executive not standard as the villa should be great and the choice of villa parks are very good standard.

Just booked, only last week, 14th July, 2 weeks holiday for august 2005 with TCD. out on 26th august 2005 from gatwick with 2 adults & 2 kids aged 12 & 8.
Staff were great & very friendly, booked over the phone with debit card. No charge with this card, but 2% if booking with credit card. Received confirmation pack 2 days ago.
4 bedroom executive villa with private pool, intermediate car hire (size of a mondeo car equivalent) with all extras included with car insurance etc, flights with wait for it, travelling in their sunshine first cabin. For an extra supp you get a 50 inch seat pitch, seats fully recline, upgraded meal/menu, own personal monitor, priority boarding & check in & dedicated cabin crew & Travel insurance for family of 4. I think thats all covered. HA HA. Total cost for all this is £3806.00 & this is during high season in school holidays! We are looking forward to it very much. Lets hope they deliver. Will let you know how we got on. Please shop around for attraction tickets. Prices do vary from each outlet in the uk. If you are a real web surfer like me, it is worth the hard work. But dont be fooled by paying for more that what you need. You wont be able to do it all.
We want to see some of america as well, not all the parks as well & get some couple of days off. I have gone for - 5 day disney premium ticket, 2 day 2 park universal, but you get 7 days free also, kennedy space centre maximum pass for one day & discovery cove for my 2 kids to swim with dolphins & me & hubby no swim plus you get entry included into seaworld for 7 days as well. These attractions in high season of course, came out at £1300.00. You have to book in advance for swim with dolphins.
Get good guide books & maps of the area. Plus we have been given directions for alternative routes when the roads are jammed heading to the parks. Will give to you on our return if you want them. We try it first & see if it true!. Have a great holiday. I know we will.

We have been twice with TCD. First year 2002 was great. 2nd yr 2004 not so great. We had an air atlanta plane that was on it's last legs or wheels !! First year we stayed at Highlands Reserve so we asked for it last year and got dumped in the middle of a building site! But to their dues they moved us after we complained.

This year we are trying virgin. They couldn't get us Highlands so I booked that independently. And it has worked out the same price as TCD !

I wouldn't knock TCD at all though apart from the planes, but then I know they are upgrading all the time. Just hope you don't get Air Atlanta !!

We are off to Orlando in January 2006 and have travelled with both TCD and Virgin and we decided that although Virgin in approx £300 dearer we could go with them. On the TCD flight we sat at the back and myself and children couldn't see the tv screens plus you have got to drive down from Sanford. With Virgin you land in Orlando airport and on the last day of your holiday you can check in at Downtown Disney in the morning so you do not have to be at the airport until a hour before your flight plus you can pre book your seats foc before you go and flights leave on most days from Manchester.

Thanks for all the replies. TCD could not accomodate our requests thus we have bboked with Virgin (made use of special local authority school holiday discount scheme saved extra £400!) roll on August 2006.

I travelled with tcd once and they were dreadfull! travvelled with virgin ever since and they are really good. you get your own personal tv with loads of channels, music and games. they also fly direct into Orlando International. Despite being a bit dearer well worth it!

I suggest you don'f fly with travel city as they are an unexperienced company who has many issues to deal with. Our flight going to Florida Sanford on the 29th July 2005 was delayed for 21 hours and another Travel City Flight 24 hours a least. Our plane was hit by a baggage vehicle and had to be fixed but little did they know that they checked in half on the passengers into a hotel during the delay that faced the plane where no damage could be seen or no repairs being done. The other flight had there plane sent to tenerife instead on
Manchester to pick up yet more stranded passengers. Finally after 21 hours we did fly out with no tome in that 21 hours where we seen by a travel city rep. Save your self some stress and dont fly with they and go with a company like BA or Virgin who has enough planes to move people around.

Hi, be careful, the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird has lost its Holiday Inn flag and unless some SERIOUS work is done there, it will have to be rebranded soon - and without the financial backing of the Holiday Inn name, facilities and standards may drop.
Just thought you should know!

We were very anxious about flying with Travelcity Direct this year as we have only ever done a holiday with Virgin. TCD are much more efficient at sending paperwork etc and keep you well informed. We flew on Boeing 747-300 TF-AMJ which had only been with TCD for two months. The black leather seats in economy were very comfortable and legroom generous. IFE was superb and meals were deliscious, and the flight attendants were very competant. We were delayed 27 mins out bound due to the plane being heavier than expected and requiring more fuel. The return flight was just as good!

Our villa was in Thousand Oaks, south of Kissimmee. 139 Imperial Oak Court, an old villa but very very nice.

We will never use Virgin again to fly to Florida as TCD was £2400 cheaper than Virgin. We flew out July 9th and in July 23rd.

Thanks

Alex

Hi

We have used travel agents the first two visits and the problem is your choice is restricted but being novices at the time everything was done for you.

First time we used Unijet and had a long delay on departure we had to be coached from Sanford Airport to Orlando International and they brought in a very old jumbo from Miami, the crew were miserable ( no wonder they had flown from Miami to Orlando to Manchester)and there was no inflight entertainment and the lighting wiring was all mixed up when i switched my light off someone elses came on in another, and vice versa!

The next holiday was with Airtours who were less than average and on the way home a fight broke out on the plane and they were threatened with landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland were the would be arrested, and believe me it is no fun being stuck on a plane about two hours away from Shannon when things are getting a bit uncontrollable with two very tired children on a night flight with drunken rowdy passengers who incidentally were all from the same party (about 30) spread all about the plane, at least they were arrested when we landed at manchester! to cheers and applaud from all of the passengers and one of the women with them said "I don't know what your ****ing clapping for i've got young kids" pity she did'nt think of that when we were trying to get some sleep across the Atlantic.

Since then we have booked Virgin & car hire with a small company called Charter Travel with no problems, and we book the villa direct from a company in Kissimmee, we do not make a massive saving but we can pick the exact villa we want to suit us. We also love to use the pre baggage check in at Downtown Disney that Virgin provide for a small fee, you get rid of all the BIG cases and just have hand luggage to lighten the load for the last day in Orlando.

I have priced TCD and they always work out dearer.

Hope this helps,
Tinkerbell

we travelled with tcd last year to florida and we had the telly's on the ceiling as with other planes i have been on.there was not one big screen for everyone.
as a whole the holiday was brilliant with tcd, so much so that i had no hesitation in booking with them again and we are off to florida in may.the first time we went to florida was with thomas cook.there was only 37 people on the plane and after take off we could sleep or sit where we liked.but we paid for it on the flight home.we had an air 2000.words cannot describe how small this plane was and we were crammed in like sardines.29in leg room (tcd sandard 31ins).there was no room to put your overhead luggage and i travelled for 9 hours with my feet on top of my bag.all this with 31ins legs.it was dreadful.
i too checked the prices for virgin and i just couldn't warrant spending the extra money on a flight when it could be better spent elsewhere.i can thoroughy recommend travel city direct. SORRY YOU MUST HAVE GONE WRONG WAY IT`S ONLY 7 AND A HALF HOURS HOME DID YOUR WATCH STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, first of all, ALL airlines have delays! It is how you are dealt with when you get them.

We travelled to Sanford from Gatwick this summer (9 of us in total) on the 2nd July for 2 weeks. We had a 2 hr delay going out there and 1 hr delay coming home. Both down to minor faults with the plane, all in all though the plane was fine (no seat back tv's though), everything from the car hire to the Villa was excellent, so much so that we are going back in March!

Travel City are a small company compared to BA and Virgin and some aspects of this do show. But if you are looking to save yourself in the region of £2000 then go with them! I would take a 2 hour delay for saving all that cash.

Like I said at the start, ALL airlines have delays so you could pay loads more and still have the same problems.

In my experience TCD are the best value for money anywhere in the UK.

Cheers, Dan.

On the plus side with TCD you can now check-out your baggage on the last day of your holiday, leaving you another day MINUS your baggage! You do this at Lake Bueana Vista for $10 BARGAIN..
Also at the moment they are giving FREE tickets to Dixie Stampede with a full package booking..

And finaly i NEED HELP.. Has anyone travelled from Manchester with TCD in PREMIUM ??? I am really intrigued as to what the seat configuratio is and how comfortable/good they are?
