So I maybe have booked well in advance! But got a bit excited about going!!
Anyway, I've been reading some posts and people are recommending hiring cars, and others aren't, so was wondering if you could help me out!
We're going for 14 nights, first 7 nights will be on I:drive, visiting Universal, discovery cove, kennedy space centre (possibly), ripley's believe it or not (other things around that area), and Busch gardens, Then moving onto Disney All Star Movies, and spending the full 7 days at Disney.
Do you think I'll need a car for all or any of this? Your advice greatly received thanks!

I do know quite a few people that have stayed on I Drive without a car, mainly because there are no drivers in the group.
They seem to get by with no problems, as a lot of the hotels do run shuttle buses to and from the parks and some of the other attractions. There is also a regular trolley bus which runs on I Drive with lots of stops close to the bigger hotels and shopper areas. Although this does mean that you are a slave to the time tables of the various types of public transport.
Disney offer transport between all of there facilities again you have to keep a eye on the timetables.
The only problem is that if you want to go outside of the Disney complex you will find the choice of transportation very limited.
All in all it is very doable without a car, but I find that its makes life a lot easier to hire a car so that you can enjoy everything the area has to offer on your own schedule.
I really enjoy driving in Florida as we would normally hire an SUV, which for me is all part of the excitement of the holiday.

Glad you're booked.
We' re just back for the 2nd time now and I would say yes a car would be preferable. To get to busch gardens from I.D. is 1hr 20mins in the car - but well worth it if you like the roller coasters. Also Kennedy Space Centre is about an hour - we were really looking forward to it ie. me, hubbie and 12yr old daughter but honestly weren't impressed - wouldn't go back! Daytona Beach is also over an hours drive away, for this again you would need a car, especially as you can drive on Daytona Beach - really cool!
Universal is 5 mins from I.D. but car is preferable - saying that parking in all of the parks goes from $7-$9 per day. However, Universal is so worth it. Flexticket is best. Disney, was nice, but Universal is much better.
Hope you enjoy it.

if you agent offers fly drive TAKE IT, there are so many other things to see around i drive but you will need transport, florida mall is about 10 min drive but buses dont go very often and you will also need a car if you intend to go out in the evenings. I know it will sound daft as alot of places are very close but you just cant walk to them. Parking is no problem but you do have to pay, saying that you only pay once a day and keep that ticket if you want to park hop. Some people manage without a car but if you have a driver then get a car, spending a week in disney is great but you will still want to venture out to eat as some of the restaurants in kissemee are great, theres also no transport to places like gator land from what we can remember and if there is its only certain times. this will be our seventh visit this year and weve always found a car a god send. If you travel with companys like travel city direct the car hire is in with the price of the hotel and flight, good luck and have a great time

It is always good to book early we booked April 04 for our trip June 05. we stayed in IDrive the first time which was in 03 May and did not need a car , you can get on the trolly that runs up and down IDrive. You can also buy tickets for the trolley for as many days that you wish, giving you te opportunity to get on and off wherever you like as many times as you like. Most hotels do shuttle buses to and from the parks. Ifyou have not bought tickets as yet for the parks a great offer was in the Sunday Mail for tickets and excursions you can check out proces at www.attractionticketsdirect.com. prices are good. have a lovely time.

And if you like shopping you'll need a car to take you to the malls and the flea market in Kissimmee and driving is much easier with off road parking and the roads are wider
