Hi, I am going with my dad to the US embassy as he has an interview for a visa. He was told to apply for a visa and interview because of a conviction 23 years ago! He had to apply to Scotland Yard for all his details with regard to this conviction first of all then pay for telephone calls at £1.50 a min to the US embassy, pay Scotland Yard for his details, £15 for photo's to take with him, plus £67 (non refundable) in advance for the visa, even if he doesn't get it! On top of that, train fares! Thats without a courier to deliver the visa at the end at £9, It's never ending, with him having to take time off work it will cost around £200!
Does anybody know what sort of chance he should have, he was wrongly imprisoned 23 odd years ago for 9 months and on appeal they let him out after 3 months. It doesn't actually state this on his Scotland Yard info though, it actually looks as though he got 2 convictions because of the way its worded! It states stealing conviction on the info.
I have been told he should be ok as they are more interested in convictions for political issues more or less, could anybody advise me or guide me as to what my dad can expect?
We are going to London in a few days and have no clue what to expect at all. Thank you.
