Anyone got any advice on footwear whilst doing the parks?
I was planning on getting the kids (and myself) trekker sandals from Clarks, the ones that have the two velcro fastenings, one at the toes and one by ankles. My thought were cool yet properly fitted and secure!
Will this type of footwear be ok or do they need something more substantial?

the only problem with footwear like that is with them being new the straps might rub, and the last thing you want with all the walking you will be doing is sores on your feet, i think a decent pair of trainers are best for walking roung the parks.
Also if you do get certain sandals they can make you take them off at every rollercoaster you go on, i remember seeing one sandal in the net at the Hulk rollercoaster, somebody must have been annoyed with themselves

Go for comfort. Don't forget you will be doing alot of walking and you need comfy shoes or trainers. If you do buy new ones make sure you break them in before you go, wear them round the house. trekker sandal are fine as long as you can wear them all day and be comfortable.

I agree with loobylou, comfortable feet is a must. You don't realise how far you do walk and standing in line is made easier if your feet don't ache!
I've used the same pair of trainers for the last few years, I've kept them specially for the theme parks as they are so comfortable. :)

I third the motion to get good, sturdy trainers (or other) well in advance of your trip, and wear them until they're VERY comfortable. We see people in flip-flops, cowboy boots, even high heels in the parks, and they look like they're praying for death. You NEED sturdy shoes that don't rub, don't slip and don't pinch.
Another good tip? Take a change of socks. Blisters sometimes occur when your feet are sweaty, which makes them more vulnerable when they rub against your shoes. You can also try an antiperspirant spray (like you'd use under your arms!), and spray your feet before you start out for the day. Clever, hey?
We see a lot of Crocs in the parks these days, but I'm afraid I'm not convinced by their 'comfort'. Simon and I were each given a pair at a Super Bowl event, but found them anything but comfortable. Still, there are thousands who swear by them.

Thanks for those tips!
We each own comfortable trainers so I'll take those.
I've also found the girls trekkers from last year and they still fit - so I've just thrown them in the washer and I'll take those along too.
Good tip about the anti perspirant spray!!

Definitely good tip about the anti perspirant spray, I suffer from sweaty feet syndrome :o so I will get some when we are out there :D

Just another quick thought, if you DO get a blister, stop in at Goodings, Walgreens, Wal-Mart or the like and pick up some Moleskin.
It's not made from the moles you wish would find someplace to live other than your garden, it's a soft flannel-like material with a sticky backing. You cut a hold in it to accommodate your blister, then stick it on (around the blister, not over it, as I did the first time. OUCH!!). It provides some protection from further aggrevation. Handy item, and cheap!

I always buy new trainers on my first day in Florida and use the parks to wear them in. I've never had any trouble with a mid-range Nike model around $50. Thats just me of course.

I think you must have struck lucky, dm. We wouldn't normally recommend Orlando as the place to try out new shoes of any kind, as you do SO much walking, you can easily get blister problems unless your footwear is well tried and trusted!

True, the two previous times i've been i was in the Territorial Army so used to wearing heavy boots to walk miles in. Trianers, even new ones, were a doddle! May be different now though as i'm not in any more.

I was once told that to make sure you always buy a good quality bed and good quality shoes, because if your're not in one you're in the other. :)

Think of a clog-shaped rubber box with air holes in the top and you've got Crocs.
So sorry...couldn't help myself! I'm sure they are a delight to their owners, as some here will attest. :D

:) Karrie I'm sure they're probably very comfy but I don't think I would try them for the following reasons:
i) The idea of trekking around the parks all day and into the night without the good support of decent trainers makes me cringe. My feet ache when I just think about walking lol! :D
ii) I don't think they'd suit my feet (can't do straps going across the top if you know what I mean) But I'm sure yours look very nice :)

HAW HAW HAW!!!
Lies, INDEED! I am the Goddess of Absolute Truth!
I urge you most strongly NOT to do a Google search. The lure of Crocs is too great, just as the lure to the Dark Side is strong. It is a hideous, broken person who straps a Croc to their foot and calls it fashion (present company excepted, since karrie is young and does not know the consequences of her ways!).
'Comfort' is not worth the shame!!!
