Just read on another forum that disney quest is to close in Jan 08. Just wondered if anyone could confirm this? Simon or Susan? What are they going to do instead?
It would be a shame as the kids love going there at night. :(

It has been rumoured that DQ is closing for a while now, and a 'reliable source' (Ok, Jim Hill Media) posted an article in early 2006 stating it would close in October 2008 to make way for a new ESPN Zone. Various dates have been bandied about since then, including a date as early as January 2008.
I happened to sit next to a DQ CM on a flight from Michigan back to Orlando and she said they hadn't been told anything about a closing. At that time (about 8 months ago) they were laying new carpet on several floors, which lead her to believe the rumours were untrue, since a fair bit of money was being invested in cosmetic updates.
I honestly can't remember if Disney has confirmed or given a date, but I'll bet I know someone who does know.......... ;)

:( It will be a shame if it does close as my son always likes to go there as he is a computer games nut. As for the new carpet being laid hubby remembers many a time they laid new carpet and decorated his call centres (he used to work for BT) and then a year later or maybe less shut them down!!!! so perhaps don't read much into that.

when we went in dec we asked quite a few people about this and we was told it was only rumours and that they always go around but sometimes the rumours turn out true and the staff are always last 2 here

I agree Catlady and marg21, new carpet means nothing and the staff are always the last to know. Even the CM I spoke with said as much. She was pretty confident it would remain open, but again, that was 8 months ago.
As of today, there is no confirmation from Disney (I just checked with my main source ;) ) and it remains only a rumour. I won't say it can't happen. I can't even say I'd be terribly surprised. But it would certainly be a shame. Our 14 year old and his buddies love the place and it's a great place on a cold or rainy day.

Although we don't know any of the economics of the DD DQ, the Chicago version closed pretty soon after opening about 5/6 years ago as it was a serious money-loser. I would imagine everything in DD has to earn its keep/justify its existence and, alongside the big revenue earners like the Virgin me****ore and Cirque du Soleil, it may not be justifying the huge piece of real estate it occupies. It's sad to think in those kind of terms, but then it has never really been a busy venue (and, when it is, it is uncomfortably crowded), so you can understand why Disney would at least be looking at alternatives, if not actually planning them.

Personally I think it is a lame duck just waiting for hunting season.;)
I have been a couple of times and the problem with an attraction like this is change or the lack of it.
Video games change quicker than ever these days and the only way to keep the punters coming in this market is to upgrade regularly.
Yes there have been some new additions over the last few years but not on the scale it would require to keep it fresh, this would just cost too much.
I love video games and I probably spent far too much on this pastime (time and money) but I have never warmed to DQ and I do not expect it to be there for much longer.

There is a similar thread to this one on another forum and one of the cast members that work in DQ has said that it is NOT going to close. They have lots of new things coming to DQ and have spent thousands of dollars capreting the building! The CM also says we have 1 ESPN zone we don't need 2.DQ won't be going anywhere! Lets hope the CM is right.
