Does anyone know if walkie talkies bought in the UK will work in Orlando, and if they do would they effect the equipment in the parks or interfere with other frequencies?

havent ever used them myself but have heard that a lot of the time u will get a lot of interference from other people using then on the same frequency as u are.
Sometimes you are easier to just get a couple of PAYG mobiles from walmart or somewhere when u get there and use them :)

Hi
We always take our walkie talkies with us and don't have any problems. The only thing is if other people are on the same channel, we just change. (It can be fun listening to them!). Be prepared to use normal batteries unless you have a worldwide charger. We find them cheaper than mobile phones! :D

Yeah i'd say they'd be ok. Just get a multi channel set so as said above you can simply change frequency if needed.

walkie talkies are fine as long as you all want to go to the same park. we found that with our parties composition cheap mobiles from walmart worked better. these cost about £10 each. this meant that if you wanted to split up and meet up later or pick older kids up, you can easily contact each other.

not sure if they still do them, but there was a time when you could get disposable mobile phones, yes you heard me right! You bought them very cheap and they were pre-loaded with credit. Once the credit was done you just bought another rather than top it up. Maybe a slightly long-winded way of doing it, a true PAYG would be better sometimes.

I bought a pair of walkie talkies at Walmart for $10 and they claimed to have a 5 mile limit. Seemed to work ok at the parks. They only work about 3 miles apart at home but then we have hills and mountains over here which they don't have in florida.

The UK and American frequencies are different - but the UK ones will still work. So you will be able to hear other english people not americans.
If you plan to purchase more over there they wont be compatable with the UK ones

Be aware there are a lot of 'drop out' spots throughout the parks (for example, right near the Germany and Morocco pavilions in Epcot). If you can't get a connection with your walkie talkie or mobile phone, just keep walking and try again.
On a similar note, if you can't get a connection while you're in your resort room, just open the door. You don't even have to leave the room, the door just needs to be open. Weird, I know, but there you have it.
