Has anyone been to any of the Carribean Islands??

Friends have recently got engaged and have announced they plan to have the ceremony here.My wife and I have been given the honour of best man and bridesmaid(I'm the best man ;) ).They have mentioned so far St Lucia,Jamaica and The Bahamas but none of us really have a clue.As they have both offered to make a substantial donation to our travelling fund I am very keen to get any recommendations and get something organised asap :p :D :p

Any ideas??

Sorry this should have been in the Rest of the World

Can anyone move it?

Wow - that's quite a possibility! The Caribbean is a BIG place, though, with LOTS of different islands. You can't really go wrong with places like Barbados, St Lucia and the Bahamas (the latter of which are closest to Florida). I would also recommend Grand Cayman (where we have been just recently), and the British Virgin Islands, which are Bounty Bar beautiful. If you are just looking for beaches, any of those will suffice. If you are looking for a bit more (in terms of sight-seeing and shopping) consider also St Thomas (US Virgin islands), Dominica, Guadeloupe and Grenada. From memory, Virgin Holidays have a big Weddings brochure, and that might be a good place to start for ideas, prices, etc.

I can hear Simon typing madly, so I'm guessing he's going to beat me to it here. :D

Still, I'll add my two cents worth, and hopefully you'll get lots of other opinions too!

All of the islands we have visited are beautiful, but I must say, I might hesitate to get married in Jamaica. Not that it isn't gorgeous (it is!) but it's also just a bit....I don't know....a bit worrisome, I guess. Not overly 'safe-feeling' if you know what I mean. I think you really need to know where you are and where you're going in Jamaica, and avoid some of the not-so-nice areas, just as you would anywhere. It just struck me a bit more there than in some other places. But having said that, I adored Jamaica as a day trip!

Editing to add, I second the opinion about Grand Cayman.

Thanks for the pointers guys.
Jamaica used to be very popular you would always hear of people going on holiday there but it has been along time since I have heard it mentioned by anyone.
Will check out Virgin weddings hopefully once the wedding is over we can both get over to Orlando for a week and leave the love birds to enjoy there honeymoon. ;) :D

Would we still qualify for the visa waiver program travelling to US fom one of the islands in the carribean?

Yes, the visa waiver programme would apply wherever you are travelling from. It is your nationality that is important here, not the previous country of visitation. As Brits, we definitely qualify for the vwp. :)

Thats good news Simon

Not having to go thru the hassle of getting a visa is a bonus :)
