Your three options are Cash, Travellers cheques and Credit card.
If you have low will pair, leave that Credit card in the hotel safe.;)
Travellers cheques are accepted just about everywhere, so the bulk of your holiday money should be in this format.
(Note - get fifties and twenty and not hundreds. Some of the shops prefer the smaller denominations.)
Do bring a little cash something like two hundred dollars should be enough as it is good to have a little cash just in case.
If you do plan to use a Credit card remember that most Credit card company's make charges for this, usually as mush as 5.5% on each transaction.
Do not use any Credit card to withdrawn cash if you can avoid it, as the charges are sky high.
If you can control you spending with military precision then the right credit card is the best way to get more Dollars per Pound.
Credit card company's give you the bank exchange rate not the tourist rate which at times can be between 6 -10 % better.
But as I have already said most charge you up to 5.5% on each transaction.
the Nationwide Credit card (www.nationwide.co.uk/creditcard/default.htm) does not charge you anything for using your card abroad.
I still do not recommend cash withdrawals thought even with this type of card.

I either hit the credit card or withdraw cash from my US bank account . Did the traveller's check thing the first time we went out but too much of a pain . Suppose it depends on if you prefer the security of the travellers cheques which can be used as cash everywere .
