We stayed at the Hilton at Gatwick which is linked to the South Terminal last May. Reason we did it was that we had my elderly Mum with us who used a wheelchair and it was the most stress free way of getting her around... no coaches to get on and off. It is more expensive but to our mind was worth it in fact we are using it again this September even though she is no longer with us. We went into Gatwick terminal the night before to eat as the restaurants in the Hilton are expensive. Last year we had breakfast in the hotel but won't be doing that this year as again they were dear and you can get a decent brekkie in the terminal. :)

Yes, we stayed at the Hilton in October before flying off to Orlando to get married and it was so convenient that we are going to stay there again this October.
We are having dinner there too, which is like a buffet and is very nice.
It's great too because you can go and check in the night before.
Well worth the money!

If you cant afford the Hilton there are many hotels near by which offer shuttles to the airport. I know people who have stayed in the PTI, and by all accounts it was perfectly fine.

We have stayed at a small family run hotel called Little Foxes, near Gatwick, lovely friendly place and very helpful, much better than the large chain hotels! They also have parking available and a full english breakfast ect included, they will book a taxi for the time required, approx 5 mins to airport. We found this hotel the first time we flew from Gatwick and now use it every time, have already booked our usual room for next August! Friends and family have used the hotel after our recommendation and have all agreed with us, defo worth a look! :)

as i used to live in crawley i am well placed to suggest places the closer to the airport you are the more priceyy it is there is the gatwick manor which i think might have changed names its around a 5 min drive from south terminal or you have the travelodge nearby that hotel it backs on to the runway although you would never know it i stayed there in february b4 i went to spain and it cost us 26 quid for a night which was very cheap go to www.travelodge.co.uk have a look . or in crawley itself which is very close to airport in the high st you have the george hotel a listed building which used to be a coach house half way between london and brighton its very nice there and if you want a drink go to the bar ask for phil my mate and he will sort you out!!
