If you are a big thrill ride fan, Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio is one park you won't want to miss! We try to visit at least once each summer for a day of coaster fun. Here are some pictures from yesterday's visit.

The view from the Skyride, overlooking the children's area, Wicked Twister, MaxAir and beautiful Lake Erie.

Skyride view of the unbelievable Top Thrill Dragster (the big pointy-uppy thing past Power Tower), Power Tower (the 4-tower structure on the left) with the frightening lift hill and drop on Magnum in the background.

Wicked Twister isn't really a coaster, but I'm not sure what else you could call it. It has a launch start, shoots up one side, then careens backwards, only to go shooting up the other side (backwards!). The sequence is three shots up the right tower, two shots up the left tower, and it's a feeling totally unlike any coaster we've ever done!

But NOTHING compares to Top Thrill Dragster. No matter which angle you take your photo from, you cannot capture the sheer height of this thing. The car in this picture is barely half way up! The ride does break down often, and on this trip we watched as the first car launched after a mechanical delay. It got to the crest at the top, but we all stood horrified (and a little bit thrilled!) as the car almost...but not quite...reached center, then stopped, then began falling back down the track backwards! YIKES!!! It took a while to get things sorted out, a few riders demanded to get off (one in tears!), but the second launch did the trick, and up and over it went!

More on #2!

Truly, no picture does justice to Top Thrill Dragster. It is just so impossibly quick and high - 0-120 in 3 secs, straight up 420ft, then straight back down, with a corkscrew twist!!!! The line was miles long this time, but I've done it before and it is just a complete blast. It is the first ride we've come across that has such enormous spectator value - they even have a stand where you can sit and watch it!! Great fun either way (I'm not so sure if I'd have been thrilled with the backwarsd version of the ride, though  The forwards version lasts only 20sec, but I think I'd prefer to see the ride coming!).

Mind you, the Millennium Force coaster looks equally unfeasible.............!!!

Wow that ride looks scary, don't think I would be brave enough to go on it. However my son would love it. Looks a very nice park also looks clean....no litter around unlike parks here in the UK.

Yes, Cedar Point is a real joy to spend time in. It is not a 'theme' park as such, but it does have all the elements like rides, shows and restaurants; just not with any particular theme (apart from their Frontiertown area). It is certainly comparable with the Orlando parks in entertainment terms, though, and obviously their coasters are absolutely second to none. The town of Sandusky is also a curious mix of old-town America and new development, with LOTS of hotels, motels, restaurants, shops and smaller attractions (mini-golf, water-parks, haunted houses, etc), that makes it a bit like Highway 192 in Kissimmee.
