I've never bought mine on the internet, but I use Thompson Exchange - who are the cheapest of anyone! We're very lucky in that they've got a bureau on The Strand, just 5 minutes from where I work, so I check the prices on the internet and then go up there and buy them. At the moment they're doing dollars for $1.96 which is a lot better than anyone else at the moment.
You can buy on line as well. Their website is tegforex.co.uk Remember to put the www. in front - I can't post URLs for another 4 posts! Check them out, anyway!

Worth checking out these people.

They have exchange places all over the country. I was a bit dubious about them, given they were often located in cheque cashing outlets, but their was no catch at all.
If you look at their comparison chart you can see all the other main rates. Thought I have noticed that they seem to have a lag on the competitions prices.
Thomson for example is only at $1.86 or M&S $1.88
If you can get $1.96 I would take it otherwise these people are consistenltly better than almost everyone.
Not heard about the pay now send it later mentioned above. I would be careful. Why not ring the FSA and ask them if you are cobered if the company goes under etc:happy-thumb

Yes, my friends use them - but they work in the City right by a huge one. Can you buy dollars from M&S on line?

Just checked these people, and I have to say that they're only doing $1.93 at the moment! I think mine wins at the moment!
The thing is, I can recommend TEG as I've used them a lot and always been completely satisfied. When I went along there to get dollars when it was over 2 to the £1, the rate on the board outside was a full point less than their online rate. When I mentioned it to them, they said they'd match the internet price - no hesitation at all. The best rate I got from TEG was $2.04 - which is excellent!

i have been getting my dollars from my travel agent where i booked my orlando trip harvey world travel they have a better rate than marks and spencer and most other places that i have seen and unlike most other travel agents you dont have to exchange a minimum amount to get the rate. they are very good so could be worth checking out

We usually get ours from m&s but this time we used Crown Currency, ordered them last year and paid for them and then you choose when you want them delivered, further in advance you want them you get a better rate. They have a website and then you ring them to sort it out. Arrived recorded delivery on the day we specified.

I have also used Crown Currency, i paid about six months early and got an exchange rate of $2.08 to the pound. It arrived by special delivery on the date i requested no problems. I would use again as it is the best rate around.

I buy mine from the travelex website (slightly better rate than M&S) and pick up at the airport... Never buy direct from the travelex kiosks.

I think if you go via the airmiles website you can also collect airmiles.
Never managed to collect anywhere near enough to go anywhere, but have had a few activity days in the UK out of them.

I would definitely be wary about ordering currency from an internet site without having a solid recommendation for it and unless they had solid travel bonding from ABTA or similar. The site we always recommend to have a good look at the options is www.comparetravelmoney.co.uk/

Same here ! Always use them pick up the day you fly and you get a better rate than the Post Office. Last year we got $175 extra :happy-thumb
