Our favourite US low-cost airline is AirTran Airways, who have big hubs in both Orlando and Atlanta, and offer a wide variety of cheap flights from Florida to places like New York, San Diego, Dallas, St Louis, Memphis, Washington, Charleston, Chicago, Minneapolis and Milwaukee (and Detroit ;) ). From later this month they add Raleigh-Durham in North Carolina. They are also in the process of building a new operations center in Orlando, which adds to their profile in these parts.
We rate them very highly for comfort, service and reliability, as well as price (they have regular sales when one-way fares can be as low as $50), and offer a great way to see a bit more of the US when you are in Florida (although we wouldn't recommend it for first-timers!).
