Hi All

I,ve been on Virgins website but can't find answer ! We MAY have to cancel our holiday to Florida  I have booked the flights only. Does anyone know if they give refunds ? Do they take a percentage etc ? Thanks

I have read a section on cancelling can't remember if it was on the website or in the brochure. How long til your trip? You would obviously lose deposit and then depending how long til you go depends on whether you would have to pay anymore or not. Have you taken out holiday insurance and if so would it be something you could claim for with cancelling.

They all work on a percentage of return depending on how long you cancel before you were due to go. Within a certain period (about a month) there's no return at all.

You will need to check with Virgin, though.

Your tickets should also indicate if they are refundable or not. Generally, you have to pay much more for a fully refundable ticket, but if you have to RESCHEDULE (not cancel) you should just get away with a fee. Most airlines I know about give you one year to use the ticket (they 'bank' your payment to apply to another ticket), but they do charge a fee, plus the price difference, if the new ticket costs more.

I'm afraid the only way to be sure, if your ticket does not indicate if it is refundable and if you cannot find the info online, is to check with the agency that sold you the ticket, whether that was a travel agent or direct with Virgin themselves.

My parents were booked to go to Australia so my mum could visit my uncle before he died. However, only a couple of weeks before they were due to go, they were told he was too ill to see them and not to go. They lost quite a bit of money on their tickets, only getting a partial refund. So, not even death/serious illness is enough to get a full refund out of some airlines!

Unfortunately, it does all depend on the type of ticket you bought, and the time left before you would need to cancel. The airlines are pretty sneaky at not giving anything back if they can help it.

If you can find somewhere on the ticket something called a fare basis (a jumble of letters or letters or numbers) and want to PM this to me, I can check out the fare rules for you on my system tomorrow when I am back at work. We have the fare rules for all major airlines loaded in our system. I would also need the date of issue and the date of departure.

Hi all, thanks for all the replies. Good news ! no cancellation. It,s a long story but my son (who lives with me ) his mother was trying to stop him from going ! She is the sort of person that would hurt her son and stop him going just to spite me ! Sounds like we're on another forum  but hey we're going now :happy-thumb

Very pleased to hear it, Dave :happy-thumb We can certainly relate to having to deal with BS of that nature, but stick with it. It does get better over time :)

Really pleased to hear you're going! :happy-thumb

I wish you and your son as much joyful family time as we had when we (finally) took our 15 year old overseas, in spite of the 'bumps in the road' we had to deal with to get there. :)
