Gulet Cruise and Turkey

Have just booked a two week get away from it all break for MAY/June.
The first week is spent sailing around the coast of Turkey on an overgrown yatch. Holds a maximum of 16 passengers, the only decisions to be made are do I swim before breakfast or after!!
The second week is hotel based in Kalkan.
Not having been to Turkey before, any tips will be appreciated. :happy-thumb

It's a while since I've been to that part of the world but a gulet cruise should be a wonderfully relaxing way to see it. You should really just be able to take your cue from the people operating the boat, as they will have plenty of local knowledge. Where in Turkey are you going?

Hi Simon, its a small town on the coast called Kalkan. The nearest airport is Dalaman, then its approximately a hour and three quarters drive south of there.
Not having been in that part of the world before, i'm really looking forward to it.
Love learning about other peoples culture and way of life. :)

I would definitely get an up-to-date guidebook before going (either Lonely Planet or perhaps Rough Guide). That's a bit out of the normal tourist areas, I think, and, while it is probably a wonderful place to visit for the real Turkish culture, you might want to study up beforehand as much as possible.

You could also ask on the Do You Travel (http://www.doyoutravel.com)website to see if anyone else can help with advice.

we are going to turkey as well in september for 2 weeks! we are going to altinkum lisa has been there before but i havent so it will be a new experience for me . so long as beer is readily avaliable i will be fine! we are holiday mad lately. my trip to miami last november, our 2 weeks in orlando inmay , 2 weeks in turkey in september, lisa and her mum are going to dom rep in october. i could be going to boston in november, then 2 weeks for lisa and i in dom rep next march . then im going to houston next april! too many holidays! and we are mulling over a return to orlando as well!and we havent even got there yet!
