Hi there, we will be buying around $3000 this weekend...
Anyone know the best places to go on the high street? None of them are looking that great at the moment, around $1.90.
Thanks guys :)

Yes I was going to say M&S too. Depending when you are going, check out Crown Currency they offer free delivery and the rate is between $1.95-$1.98. We have used them, very good company and deliver recorded delivery on the day specified.

You could also try the Post Office, currently $1.90 and no commission.
Remember if you pay by credit card it is charged as a money transaction by the card issuer.

Unfortunately the rate has dropped in the last couple of weeks or so, knew I should have bought more when I got some 3 weeks ago! Had to bite the bullet and buy more yesterday.
Are you taking travellers cheques as well as cash as they are more secure than just cash and you can change them over there in shops and the theme parks.

Hi
We're getting ours this weekend. As it is our 1st time a bit unsure about what to get and how much. Any advice. We're going for 16 days - 2 adults and 2 kids.
thanks

Its always best to get Travellers Cheques, as they can be used just like cash in 99.9% of shops/stores in Orlando. They are very safe as they need to be signed by you, then counter-signed infront of the person you are paying. If you lose them they can be replaced within 24 hours, unlike cash.
Having said that, i always buy about $100 in actual cash just for taxi's and food on the arrival day.

While DM and I disagree on car vs public transport  I fully endorse what he says here!!
If you've bought your tickets in advance I pitch about £1500. I'd also take a credit card (Nationwide, if poss) as security.

yes always good to have a Credit Card for those "just in case" situations. Like TF says though be careful which you use as the fees can be high (and usually hidden in the exhange rate in your statement). Nationwide are one of the very few who dont charge a fee for use abroad.

Thanks guys. I go abroad a few times a year so i am fairly used to buying cash or travellers cheques. With the dollar rate not at its best at the moment i wanted to find out if any one had any good tips on where to go at the mo. Co-op travel is usually ok so i might end up going there. Wouldnt mind using an online currency site but i dont think i have time now, they usually send with 15-21 days...

I bought our dollars last weekend in Thomas Cook at 1.93 & no commission - thought that wasn't too bad & we didn't have to order in advance - just walked in & bought them.

I transferred some money today and only got $1.922 to the pound on a direct wire transfer, which I thought was a bit stingy, so 1.93 for a tourist rate sems pretty decent.

I was quite surprised to be honest - I'd only popped in to ask what their rate was that day, & the lady at the currency exchange counter seemed quite surprised too & said herself that was the highest she'd seen it for a while. I didn't hesitate & said "I'll take it" before she could change her mind! That was two weeks ago tomorrow.

I was just luck I called in on that day I think - I'd been checking the rate with my bank over the previous few weeks & it had varied between 1.86 & 1.89. I know absolutely nothing about the money markets & so have not a clue if it's likely to go up or down!
