OK I have been to Florida twice now and various theme parks in the UK, we are coaster junkies. We really do not get the bid picture here at all do we. Yesterday I visitited Legoland with my 12 year old son, dont get me wrong we had a great day but again it comes down to attention to detail. Legoland I find is the better park fo this but stuff like landscaping could be better especially when on the Dragon rollercoaster, the ride is cute with a story using models at first then it goes off as the coaster goes round they could keep the theming up while going round the track, there was some lovely views of the rubbish bins:redconfus
Also by the end of the day there was the usual problems with the loos, dirty, no paper etc and overflowing rubbish bins. I wonder when we in the Uk can be bothered to take care of the small issues in life.
Also parent who let their kids throw rubbish on the floor while stood next a bin:angry:
They charge enough for entrance, even the annual pass is now £130 (thank you Tesco vouchers):happy-thumb

Something I forgot. Legoland have introduced a virtual que system where you have these little machines. You scroll down to the chosen ride click enter and it reserves for you, you can only do one ride at a time though. It is costly though at £10 per person, but I found it worth it yesterday when it was very busy.

After our first visit to Orlando in 1993 in April we went to a park called Flamingoland in the UK in September and were horrified at how dirty the park seemed with rubbish everywhere, staff surly and the loos....yuk. Seeing how well the Orlando parks are run just highlights our shortfalls.:thumbsdow
One of my pet peeves is people throwing litter on the floor and we over here are terrible for that.

I think the rubbish issue in England is a huge huge problem. Our town makes a real effort, and the whole of the town is litter picked on a rotating schedule, but I firmly put the blame on peoples own values.
I am always horrified at the state of the planes on dis-embarking. I have travelled with 5 kids and realise 9-10hrs is a long time, but just before landing, I make certain that they 'clear-up' all rubbish is picked up, seat back pockets emptied and re-packed neatly. It doesn't take long, I have even handed the stewardess rubbish on the way off the plane.
As my job involves driving coaches long distances on occassions, I am very aware that we have two types of customer, the messy I dont give a toss, thats whet you are paid for type, and the Thank-you so much, we have left some bags of rubbish, type. We expect some mess, thats not the issue, but when we are finding trod in half eaten sandwiches, dirty babies nappies pushed between the seats, sweets mashed into the heating ducts grills, it makes you wonder, just what peoples homes are like.
Yes we get paid to clean our coaches, [and they have to be cleaned before we can go home] but it can take another two hours on top of a very long day owing to peoples thoughtlessness.

Rant over, but it is a pet hate of mine, people generate the rubbish and mess, so be responsible and dispose of it sensibly. :happy-thumb

I'm with you all the way on this sk. There does seem to be a lack of pride and a sense of it's not mine so I'll disenage any type of 'proper' behaviour and let someone clear up after me. I was taught from an early age not to throw litter, but put it in my pocket until I got home or went past a bin - and I still do that today!

It some ways though this issue is widespread through a complete lack of responsibilty - it' always someone elses fault. And the Governments constant implementation of the nanny state doesn't help.

Off my soapbox now. :)

What disgusted me at Legoland was that the only toilets were at the entrance and right up the other end in the large restaurant. That is a long way to trawl back and forth if you have several youngsters who need to use the toilet NOW!!

It is a park for little'uns - Emma was already too old when we took her at the end of 12 - and the only two rides we actually got to go on were the balloon ride right at the bottom and the train - both of which had hour-long queues!!!

We went to Flamingoland when we were staying just north of York in the summer of 2000. My brother's family, who live in Leeds, came to us and we then drove up there as a party of two cars. It was good in that there's a zoo there as well as rides, but again the queues were long, and some of the rudest people we'd ever come across totally ruined it!

It was also a very, very hot day, the bins were all overfull and there were wasps everywhere. All the queues had bins by them which, although good that you could dump your rubbish before the ride, meant that there were always wasps buzzing round the queues. My husband got stung on his underarm, 2" down from his armpit while we were waiting to go across the park in the cablecar, and that obviously ruined the whole day for him.

What I don't understand is how you simply cannot go to a park in the UK and have a picnic lunch without being bothered by wasps - and yet we didn't see a single one in the US!! Do they not have wasps????

But public toilets in the UK are generally of a very, very poor standard - even when you go into some of the big superstores and department stores like Debenhams and House of Fraser. Toilet seats hanging on, locks missing, never any toilet roll .... WHY??? It's not all the sloppy 'customers'. Clearly people in the UK don't want to work in toilets ...

As I said before, Legoland is better than the other parks for rubbish and loos but even still it did get disgusting. At the park exit that had a place for comments and I wrote these grudges down. It really does not take a minute to empty a bin or clean a loo and if done on a regular basis does not get horrible. They have these machines that say when they were last lookied at but on a hot busy day like Saturday was you need someone there all the time. I also agree about the maintence of the loos.
As for people and litter I know in one loo there was a dirty nappy someone had left on the seat. I dont get it, I always disposed of my sons nappies in the correct place why cant other s its not hard:angry:
We in the UK just seem to have no respect for our surroundings or each other, it is always someone elses doing or problem, we no longer seem to be able to teach our children without it violating some 'goody two shoes' law so kids dont care either. It makes you want to leave.
Sorry will now go and have coffee. We will visit again despite all this as we have our passes and we do enjoy a day out:mr-cool:
Legoland does have some of the longest ques though, that is why we opted for the Q-BOT, but it is expensive, why cant we have the machines like you get in Magic Kingdom or elsewhere in Florida, you dont pay for them. they have virtual queing down to a fine art.

That is the worse when you go on a flight and you see other peoples garbage and just used stuff in the pocket. Very gross.

Just walk down the street in the uk, and you spend all your time avoiding dogdirt, spit, and cig butts. The country is a mess in nearly every way you can think of.

The themeparks are grim all over the UK, but look even worse when you compare them to WDW.
