We are flying with AA in 4 weeks and we wondered what they are like? We have a change in Chicago with 6 hours stopover. We have never flown indirect before always direct but the flights were half of what they would of been flying direct. Do we collect our luggage in Chicago to go through immigration or does it go straight on and we don't see it until orlando?

You have to clear both customs and immigration at your first point of entry in the USA so in your case Chicago. We did this in New York JFK with Delta in November 2006. 6 hours should be plenty, we just had 3 hours and missed our connecting flight by about 10 minutes. When you get of the aircraft, you clear immigration and then go to collect your luggage and clear customs. From there we proceeded to the transfer check in desk and just handed in our luggage again as we had already got our boarding cards. When you arrive at your destination, you are treated as a domestic passenger.

At Chicago you will arrive at the international terminal, proceed as DG says, and then get the internal train to the domestic terminal (you need to ensure you know which one, AA may go from Terminal 3), see link to airport info http://www.flychicago.com/ohare/concessionsohare/TerminalMapsORD.shtm

I flew with AA years ago all over the states. It was a long time ago but it was really good service. Good food aswell which is a must for me on a flight.
