My son and father are going to the algarve, am probably worrying unnecessary but my son though 21 has adhd, dyslexia, dyspraxia and slight aspergers, my father has early alzheimers. It has been impossible to stop them going, and it may be ok as my father has a time share there and has been going for years. He is ok at the moment in places he knows.. i have bought my son a bum bag for passports, trvellers cheques etc so they don't lose them. It has lots of differnt pockets so he won't have to go near the money to get passports etc. The apartment has a safe for when they get there. I am getting him travellers cheques for his birthday which is on 26th september when he will actually be 21. What I would like to know is, for portugal would i get sterling or euro travellers cheques?.

You need Euros in Portugal, so that is definitely the currency to get. Sterling travellers cheques would be accepted at bureaux de change but not elsewhere.

thanks simon, I knew he needed euros cash but wasn't sure about travellers cheques. Got a phone call last night that they had arrived at the apartment safely so fingers crossed.
