When you returned the car did they give you a receipt - and does this show the charge?

One thing it could be is the Airport User fee that MCO introduced whih wasn't covered by the hire fee.

That was my first thought, but shouldn't that only be $12.50?

Yes, you're right, I just checked my receipt from last month. It's more likely to be fuel then, but this should also be on the receipt.

I just checked our statement and our airport users fee was $13.31, that was from Alamo.
Perhaps stevegrothers charge could be the fee and some extra gas? Mind you they should inform you first!

I did have a receipt but there was nothing in relation to this charge. I recall they checked the fuel gauge when I pulled up and it registered as full. Do you think they do any further checks once the car is fully checked over (ie actually dipping the fuel tank?) I've e mailed budget as I'm not happy with this surprise charge.

I wouldn't think so, the purpose of the reception process is to check the car over and give you a receipt - end. The only other thing is, and you mentioned it earlier, is a toll violation. I think you should push them for a response.

Still no e mail reply from Budget. I know it's not a great deal of money but it is so frustrating that these people had my credit card and have charged fees without notice and for what I know not

Worth putting in a disputed charge with credit card company?

I have finally had the following reply from Budget:

Thank you for contacting Budget.
I apologize for this inconvience this maybe causing you,but we do not
have any documents that will show a Toll charge. You would need to call
our Toll Dept at 866-642-2000.

I don't think I'll bother with incurring international call charges as well.

My credit card charge did read: International Budget Rent a Car Toll 800-482015USso I can only assume it was a toll violation charge. I did accidentley violate a toll shortly after leaving the airport but was advised on other threads that there would not normaly be a charge for up to three/four violations.

I think I'll have to forget it- I certainly won't let it spoil the fond memories of my first Florida Holiday- just a bit weary of providing credit card details in future

I think it may not mean Toll charge. In the US the 800 number is a phone number that they say is a Toll free number (like our 0800).

If you are on Sky or many other phone companies you will find that they call to the US is free, all the time.

Ring your credit card company in the UK and say you have tried to contact them and you would like to put the charge into dispute until you know what its for?
