When the Hoover Dam was constructed to harness the power of the Colorado River in 1935, Lake Mead was also created and it remains the largest man-made lake in the USA. The deep blue water contrasts dramatically with the burnt desert landscape and the pristine waters are perfect for a relaxing cruise. On arrival at Lake Mead, board the Desert Princess, a Mississippi-style paddlewheeler and enjoy a 90-minute cruise to enjoy the full beauty and majesty of the area including Arizona Paint Pots, Boulder Island, Colorado River and the surrounding volcanic rock of extinct volcanoes. Enjoy an light lunch - sandwich, crisps, fruit and a drink - on board the Desert Princess as you cruise along Lake Mead.

After the cruise, continue to the Hoover Dam. Standing more than 700 feet high, the Hoover Dam is an amazing feat of modern engineering and today it provides much of the electricity for California, Colorado and Nevada. You have 1.5 hours to explore this fantastic site at your own pace. The Observation Deck is not to be missed and you can also visit the museum and watch a short movie on the Hoover Dam’s construction.
