Default New Intercontinential hotel In Orlando

I came accross this & thought it would be interesting:

The InterContinental hotel chain is finally taking the plunge into the Orlando market.

InterContinental, one of the last major hotel brands not represented in Central Florida, will operate Palazzo del Lago, which includes a 1,260-unit hotel, the InterContinental Orlando Resort and a 994-villa unit project, Villas at Palazzo del Lago, for Hospitality Development Group Inc.

This will be the largest InterContinental hotel in the world, says the Fort Lauderdale-based developer.

The $800 million mega-resort will be located in the Lake Buena Vista area, on a 42-acre parcel on Lake Bryan near the Caribe Royale Orlando All Suites Resort, about four miles from the Orange County Convention Center. The hotel's entrance will be on International Drive.

More details about the project are to be announced March 20, when Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty, Orlando-Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau President Bill Peeper and other industry leaders will be on hand at the convention center with Hospitality Group's principals.

The commitment by InterContinental is a milestone in the development of Orlando as a tourist destination.

InterContinental is the most prestigious of InterContinental Hotel Group PLC's chain of companies, which includes Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Candlewood Suites, among others. The closest InterContinental hotel is in Miami. InterContinental is located in more than 60 countries, operating 136 hotels worldwide.

"It's a sign that the market has matured sufficiently to support that level of product," Peter Yesawich, a travel industry specialist and founder of Yesawich Pepperdine Brown & Russell in Orlando, told Orlando Business Journal. He says other signs in the market, such as interior upgrading and renovations at the Disney Swan, plans for a Four Seasons hotel in Celebration and the success of the Ritz-Carlton here indicate that Orlando is growing beyond a family theme park destination.

In addition to the 2,250-plus hotel and villa units, the project also will include 114,000 square feet of meeting space, a large spa, a water feature, a beachside swimming area and five themed restaurants. Fourteen- and 18-story towers house the hotel rooms and villas.

The complex, designed by Adache Group Architects Inc., takes on a Mediterranean theme, with terra cotta, barrel-tile rooftops dominated by hues of rose and pink. A large pool and 300 feet of lakeside beach on Lake Bryan will be integrated with lush gardens.

yeah intercontinential hotels are very posh, well outside the average man on the streets budget, but sounds nice tho.

intercontinential hotels own Crowne plaza, Holiday Inn, Express by Holiday inn, Holiday Inn express, Staybrdge suites & some others, & i have stayed in the Holiday Inn, express by Holiday Inn & crowne plaza before & they are all good hotels.

I've stayed in the Holiday Inn a few times and found it very nice. Nothing beats the hotels in Vegas. Even the budget ones are a class apart. As long as I get a decent bed and a shower, I'm happy. Must have a look around this new one when we are over at the end of May.

Budget hotel in Vegas would be Circus Circus or similar. We talk about the Wow factor arriving in Florida but landing at night into McCarron airport in Vegas really takes some beating. Disney for adults, although I love Disney as well.
Mr O assume you have been to the top of Stratosphere ? The view at night is something to behold. Then hop on the Needle or Roller coaster around the perimeter. Not scary rides if they were on the ground but stuck 1200 feet up the tower is another matter  .

Mo ive stayed at the Stratosphere and the views at the top were fantactic.

The thrill rides at thr top were wild and extreme - i loved them all

And landing at McCarren what a site. Coming into land I looked out the window and said " is that it" much much bigger when your on the ground

Here are some pics from top of the tower
