Meanwhile, back in the current Weather Report, we suddenly dropped down into near-Arctic conditions again (by Florida standards) overnight. We were forecast to be in the 40s, but ended up at 38F (3C), which felt even colder first thing this morning with a bit of wind chill. Right now it has struggled back to 56F (13C) and is nice and sunny, but there is a real chill to the air still. Anyone heading out to the parks this morning would have needed some heavyweight clothing, and then somewhere to deposit that coat and/or sweater for the afternoon. In theory, we won't see temps back in the 70s again for another week, and we could be in the 50s and low 60s for the rest of the time (and down to possibly as low as 34F/1C at night). Not what we want! One consolation is that we shouldn't see any rain in the next 10 days.

Did they day 34? Try 23 (-5C)!!!! That was the lowest recorded temperature in Central Florida last night as The Big Freeze hitting the rest of the country reached down into the Sunshine State with a vengeance. We were warned in advance that it would get down to freezing, but 23 was still well in excess of the forecast. We hit 28F (-2) here in central Orlando, and that was enough to keep everyone freezing even past 9am this morning. The HIGH temperature for today should be only around 50F/10C (which is usually the low temp at night in winter!) so we are REALLY feeling it this morning, and, even though there's plenty of sun, there is precious little warmth for those out in the parks. needless to say, the water parks are all closed (again) and this is the coldest winter we've ever experienced here at this stage. There were even icicles in our neighbourhood this morning where someone's sprinkler system went off at 3am!!

It should warm up again after tomorrow, with temps supposed to be back in the more typical low 70sF (22C) in three days' time, and the one consolation for visitors is that there is no hint of rain. There IS some rain in the forecast for Jan 23/24, but we should have seen the worst of the cold, at least after today!

Not as cold as that here. However overnight we had over 70mph winds that took the fence between us and a neighbour down
