    Default continental from birmingham airport

hi, has anyone used continental from birmingham to mco via washington?
if so was the layover in washington easy enough to contend with?
    only done direct flights previously
    thanks

Haven't flown from Birmingham via Washington, but have used Heathrow-Washington-Orlando and Heathrow-Washington-Detroit in the past and, while it was OK, Washington-Dulles airport is not my favourite. It is rather old in general terms, with limited seating areas, and the method of getting between the departure terminals (via these huge articulated coaches) can be very slow at times. Immigration wasn't a problem at all and as long as you have plenty of time before your connecting flight (I would say at least 90mins), you should be fine. Unless things have changed in the last few years, the airport is not over-endowed with decent restaurant choice and places to sit and relax.

I've not done, that route, but have done quite a few indirect flights to the states, and have always found them to be ok.
I dislike Chicago's O'Hare immensely, but that doesn't stop me using it if the price is right ;)
Atlanta airport is great, but that probably isn't an option

Can't stand Dulles, but would certainly put up with it if the price is right. If Atlanta IS an option, and not much more, I'd go that route, but wouldn't pass up a savings through Dulles if it's really a good deal. Just plan lots of extra time, as Simon says, and bear in mind it's just a layover, not a destination.

Still crowded and busy but usually a better bet than Washington, at least for creature comforts. It's years since I've been through there but haven't heard too many negatives (as I do with Dulles!). The immigration service ought to be pretty switched on, too.
