Lightbulb GPS Co-ordinates and a Florida map for Garmin SatNav

I have been busy the last few days collating GPS co-ordinates for the upcoming trip. I have had to get Lat/Longs as we borrowed a Garmin SatNav from Maggie's sister which didn't include US Maps. I have found a Florida map which you can mount on to a micro SD card and use on your existing system but it will not take Zip codes only street names and wouldn't recognise many of the locations due to the addresses being on highways etc i.e US192 rather than specific street or road names.

However I thought I'd post as some may find it helpful. I must say as a disclaimer that the map was downloaded from a website and the GPS co-ordinates are from Google Maps and are untested by myself but I cannot see why they would not work - all co-ordinates once programmed into our system showed up as the right locations when reviewing before saving. Also I have pinpointed co-ordinates to the road entrances to parks (i.e the booths you pass through in your car) rather than the parks themselves, or the junctions into the car parks in the case of "smaller" attractions like Sea World or KSC.
Many people won't need these especially those who stay on site at Disney as the signage is good but some like to use GPS wherever they go and ignore road signs.

    Here we go:

Link to map for Garmin devices. Clear an SD Card and make a folder named "Garmin" and place this exact file in the folder. Then simply insert into your Garmin and turn on. The maps should then be there. Go to find address (or like me use the "co-ordinates" option) and change the country to United States of America and you can then use as normal.

Useful co-ordinates (you may need to change the format of entry to "h ddd.ddddd". Where my co-ordinates are missing a digit at the start or end simply add a "0" (zero) )

Please feel free to add to, or request GPS co-ordinates. I found all of these by finding a specific point on Google Maps, right clicking and selecting "What's Here?" This gives an approximate address and the GPS co-ordinates.

I hope it is useful to someone.

It is the way i used my Tom Tom the past 2 visits and i have got all my GPS co-Ordinates already for the summer. However, the way i have got them is to load up Google Earth and zoom in to the exact spot i want to be at and then note the Co-Ordinates at the bottom of the page. My list will probably be pretty much the same and the co-ordinates may differ very slightly but they should be just about the same area.

Yeah once past the first few digits you are in to meters in distance so slightly different but very similar. Great work SS i will be using some of those co-ords as I hadn't thought of some of the places on your list!

If people are adding stuff then definately as i could always do with other co-ordinates. Over the next few years we will probably spend a little less time around the theme parks and a little more seeing other parts of Orlando and Florida so it would be handy to have a big list ready.

Slightly separate query, but along the same lines. If no one can answer, I'll update once I have tried it out...

I've downloaded an app called Navmii on my smartphone. You can get free maps downloaded onto your phone for certain places, and Florida is one. This should mean you can keep your data roaming off, as it will (hopefully) use the preloaded map.

Does anyone know how accurate this app is? (being free and all).

I'm hoping it's reasonable, as our backup will be a good ol' fashioned road map.

I believe there are a large number of phone apps that do the job and are pretty acurate and the one you have i think may also be called Navfree which i have on my phone.

I just prefer when i'm in the car to have my large screen Sat Nav set up with the GPS inputed. I have used my Sat Nav for two visits to Florida and i only went wrong once and that was when coming from Clearwater we spent the day at Busch Gardens, which we weren't going to do originally, and i didn't have the GPS, i simply inputed the name Busch Gardens and it sent me in to a one way street about a mile from the theme park.

I have never found the Navmii or Navfree to work for me but i'm gonna try then again around my home town before I leave as a backup.

I just used Google maps as normal. I'm on 3, so the data was included in my normal monthly allowance.
5 Trips to Florida, Christmas in LA, Disneyland Paris twice and odd days here and there.

All my trip reports are now HERE.
