    Default Beluga XL

I know this is not specifically Florida related, but Sea World did have a Beluga whale at one time!

But it has been very much in the news today, the new Beluga XL transport plane made its first landing at the Airbus factory in Broughton today after a couple of fly pasts. So I thought you might like to see a few photos as it flew over us.

    Either:-

    1. Bits of half made new aeroplanes, ridiculously for instance the A380 is is made at several different sites then assembled at another one or

Wonderful thing to see, would not want to land it in a cross wind.

TBH it was pretty quiet. We already have the existing Beluga fly in over us, not necessarily daily, but sometimes more than once a day.

They are primarily to carry wings that are made in Airbus Broughton to Toulouse for assembly. This covers the full Airbus range, with the exception of the A380 (the wings for that leave by the river). The XL is 30% bigger than the original and it means that it can carry two A350 wings, rather than the current one.

It's quite clever how they are loaded. The front of the plane above the flight deck lifts up to expose the cargo hold. The wings are loaded on bogeys in the factory and then lifted up and 'driven' into the hold. The current plane can be turned around in 40 - 50 minutes.

It is pretty exciting to watch when the wind blows as it can come pointing completely in the wrong direction. Also as the runway is someway below where we live I believe that there is no ILS (there is no line of sight) and the plane is flown in manually!

Wish I was a Disney executive....

TF, we had the 747 that took the Space Shuttle to Texas as a piggyback fly over our house. Darned near rattled the dishes right out of the cupboard!

(Not out photo, but a good one just the same!)

I'd forgotten about that with the space shuttle until I was reading an article last week on the 50th birthday of the 747. It is impressive and seeing it must have been fantastic.

It was absolutely astonishing to see. Flew pretty low, really, and not very fast, so it really had an impact. Sounded like the world coming to an end. It flew directly over our house, and I don't think we'll ever forget that sight.
