Default NBA Experience at Disney Springs

This kind of got overlooked in all the pre-Christmas hoopla (at least, by me!), but Disney released a lot of new details about the forthcoming NBA Experience at Disney Springs in December, and it's worth going back to highlight the features of what will be a really sizeable venue (in the space formerly occupied by DisneyQuest) when it opens this summer.

"From training simulations and clock-racing competitions to fan-favorite NBA moments – we're bringing new experiences and thrilling games to life to make fans truly feel like a star player," Stan Dodd, Executive Producer, Walt Disney Imagineering, said.

    Guests will get to:

    • Experience one of the biggest milestones for a basketball player at the NBA Draft with a photo moment that re-creates the atmosphere of the draft stage.
    • Track and improve their jump shots and passing skills in a replicated NBA Combine challenge, complete with a scouting report that highlights their stats at the end of the session.
    • Step onto the court and hear the roar of the crowd as they maneuver through a series of timed shots to aim for a high score.
    • Execute the perfect slam dunk just like NBA superstars, captured by cameras surrounding adjustable baskets.
    • Test their ball-handling skills with an interactive trainer who will challenge them with a variety of dribbling routines.
    • Use an oversized slingshot to launch basketballs at hoops of varying heights, making as many shots as possible before the clock runs out in this thrilling timed challenge.
    • Immerse themselves in the rich legacy and history of NBA and WNBA championship-winning teams.
    • Access a team locker room that showcases up-to-date statistics and visuals of top NBA and WNBA players.
    • Test their knowledge of the NBA and WNBA – past and present – during a trivia game with up to 25 participants competing against one another to be champion.
    • Enjoy two 180-degree cinematic presentations that showcase the in-arena experience moments before the start of the game, as well as special stories from the players’ perspectives.
    • Take a seat at an interactive multi-screen module to watch replay clips from NBA games, using the tools at their stations to make the right calls.
    • Play interactive basketball games, from the fan-favorite Pop-A-Shot to modern video games.
    • Shop for exclusive NBA merchandise at the retail store

(There should be an "of course" after that last one! And, while I'll admit to being a sports fan ( ) I still don't 'get' this idea And I really doubt how much it will mean to a UK audience, even those who follow basketball)

Yeah i agree with that TF. I'm a massive American sports fan but have never really got Basketball, it's Netball for men isn't it?

I'll of course go in and have a look around but it's not really that appealing to me.

I'd say this is not aimed at the UK visitor at all, now if it was the 'overpaid big girl's blouses who kick balls experience' you'd not get near it for British chavs trying to stab one another.
5 Trips to Florida, Christmas in LA, Disneyland Paris twice and odd days here and there.

All my trip reports are now HERE.

Matt's a huge American sports fan and does follow basketball to some extent. I just read this post aloud to him and after reading the last bullet point, I adlibbed with "of course" then went on to read your addendum.

He's pretty much on the same page as everyone else. He says he'd probably quite enjoy it but he won't be busting a gut to do it.

I'm sure it will be worth a look, but I don't know how much 'repeat' factor it will have. The City Works & Pour House next door might be a different story, though!

I almost added, "For the benefit of Matt and Deb, the City Works & Pour House next door might be a different story."

    Just as well I didn't

Will the locker room ‘experience ‘ have the correct aromas?

Is it just me or is the artwork really the central part of building that was Disney Quest before it was knocked down.

So, I never tried this myself, but while I was working on my PhD there was a discussion during one of the lectures about locker room smells, and how it's been proven if men and women use the same locker room (not at the same time; this is still a relatively conservative country, after all), there will be no smell. Something about hormone or pheromones or something.

I will not seek to prove or disprove this. I only mention it for your entertainment.
