Default New Coaster For Busch Gardens!

We were a bit side-tracked last Friday when this was announced, but Busch Gardens will have an exciting new major coaster next year on the site of the former Gwazi ride. It will be a hybrid wood/steel ride, incorporating a few old elements of Gwazi, but will basically be a much bigger, higher coaster that's built to look like a wooden one. It is due for summer 2020, and BG's news release says:

    #2020RISING

The buzz continues with more history in the making at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, as construction begins on a NEW hybrid roller coaster arriving in 2020. When it opens next year, the ride will become North America’s tallest hybrid, and the fastest, steepest hybrid coaster in the world.

Manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, the newest addition at Busch Gardens will be a wood and steel hybrid coaster design, featuring a maximum height of more than 200 feet tall. The ride will feature all-new thrill elements, as well as restored elements of Gwazi. Coaster enthusiasts can follow the progress of Tigris and the new 2020 attraction through the park’s social media channels and using #TakeOnTigris and #2020Rising.

Here's the teaser video - and it does look a bit monstrous!

Gwazi was the kids favourite when they were younger. They always rode about 6 times before we left the park.

There is something about wooden coasters that just makes then that bit better.

Reminds me of Millennium Force at Cedar Point. I think my days of riding these uber-mega-coasters may be over, but it looks fantastic!

I'm generally a fan of wooden coasters but Gwazi, in its later years, was a real bone (and brain) rattler that left me distinctly uncomfortable. Changing the tracks to steel should be a big improvement and make it more exciting, too, in this instance!

I know what you mean Susan! But I'm ashamed to say the macho element kicks in and leads you to the ride entrance!!

This looks amazing, quite sad that it will probably not be open until later in 2020 after we've gone home.

The last time I rode Gwazi I found it far to rattly (is that a word?) for my old bones.
