Topic: Traffic around Disney Springs and Crossroads

Default Traffic around Disney Springs and Crossroads

I wasn't sure whether to put this under accommodation or transportation; it's a bit of both.

We've stayed at the Radisson LBV a few times and like the area, although this time we were considering staying at one of the hotels on Hotel Plaza Boulevard so that we got easy access to Disney Springs and to Crossroads (walking to either is not a problem for us). We really like to be able to walk to bars and restaurants in the evening. But then we read about the closure of Crossroads due to improvements on the I4. We could still stay in one of the Disney neighbour hotels, but how much disruption will the road works make? It's likely that we'll only be doing Disney for this part of the holiday, so once there we may not need to go near the I4 / 535. Are the road works already underway and is it making already bad traffic into something even more chaotic?

I'm also not sure whether there's enough at options at Disney Springs to keep us occupied.

If we are just doing Disney (other than returning to the airport) is there another area, with lost of stuff within walking distance, that it's worth considering? I have discounted I Drive, although nothing is set in stone, on the basis that we'll be doing Universal separately.

    Thanks

I believe that the I4/535 development has been delayed for a while, it is not starting this year as I understand it and the businesses at Crossroads are operating as normal.

The traffic on the 535 is busy as usual, but so it is anywhere in the tourist area. See karalma's recent trip reports.

I should think you would be fine along Hotel Plaza Boulevard. Susan and Simon may have more info on the roadwork plans.

Yes, as TF says, there is no sign of this construction project starting any time in the near future. Our understanding is that current tenants of the Crossroads area won't even start moving out until the end of 2019, at the earliest, hence construction could only start at some stage in 2020.

Have you visited since Downtown Disney became Disney Springs? Marketplace and West Side are still recognisable but what was Pleasure Island and the old parking lots have undergone such a complete transformation that it's difficult to get your bearings. What's the duration of the Disney portion of your trip? There are so many great new eating and drinking options that we'd probably be happy to eat there every day for a fortnight if we had to.
