thing is its so repetitive when doing multiple applications , you just go number blind..silly mistake but at least it was on the ESTA and not on the flights

The application form for ESTAs has been updated and now requires more information such as parents names and work related info. Just a heads up if you are about to apply.

Thanks for the heads up. I had a quick look and had a short moment of panic. It now asks you if you have a second nationality. Technically I still have dual nationality, but I no longer have a German passport. So when it asked me for the passport number for my second nationality, I was somewhat stumped. Fortunately the passport number for the second nationality is optional.

Do you have to update any details on a return visit to the US if you are visiting a different state

I don't believe you have to, but updating is very easy.

The US has added a few caveats to the Visa Waiver programme, as follows:

    http://london.usembassy.gov/ukpapress165.html

Basically, it bars anyone who has recently been in Iraq, Syria, Iran or Sudan, or who has dual nationality with those countries, from travelling under the VWP, and means they now have to seek a visa. Existing ESTA will be revoked for people under those conditions. There are still exceptions for some people, as explained on the link, but, unless there are humanitarian reasons for visiting those countries, it probably makes sense.
