With a strong Cuban influence, Miami’s food scene is diverse and inspiring. As well as traditional Cuban eateries, exciting fusion restaurants are cropping up all over the city. If you’ve already bought your Florida theme park tickets and fancy exploring this beautiful city, make sure you know the best restaurants in Miami before you go.

Best restaurants in Miami

Ghee Indian Kitchen

Ghee Indian Kitchen is an inspiring restaurant using locally-sourced ingredients and fresh produce from its very own farm. Serving beautifully fresh and authentic Indian food, the eatery quickly gained a good reputation among locals.

We spoke to owner Shivani Patel to find out more about the roots of the restaurant: “When Chef Niven was told by his Home Owners Association (HOA) that he was not allowed to plant certain vegetables, he went house hunting and landed himself on a 2-acre lot in Homestead Florida. Without the HOA, he was free to grow wherever and whatever he wanted on his land. He soon began to produce more than he had anticipated, so to utilise the produce he would cook for 15-20 guests on his day off and invite them to his home and farm.

“When they ate his food, they began to throw ideas around on how Miami could benefit from a different type of Indian, a more home-style of Indian cuisine. Surely, after enough friends and family voiced this, Chef Niven began the journey of Ghee Indian Kitchen.

“Ghee is special in that the spices used are used to enhance the flavour of the vegetable, fruit or meat instead of the spice overpowering the dish. We want to taste the spice, but we want to taste the vegetable, fruit or meat more. A lot of the dishes are classic twists on Indian street food and some are classic, just prepared with fresh locally-sourced ingredients.”

We asked Shivani which dishes she’d recommend to new visitors:

  • “Pani Puri - puffed semolina cups filled with roasted beet and sprouted moong topped with green juice
  • Lamb Neck - Three-day Brine, two day smoked and braised in brown chickpea curry
  • Pickles and Chutneys - assortment of pickles seasonal fruits and vegetables
  • Gulab Jamun - Round doughnut hole-like spheres soaked in ginger syrup, served above a vanilla chocolate creme, topped with a hibiscus meringue and shaved pistachio
  • Sticky Date Cake - Roasted date puree is the binder for the cake mix, keeping it moist. Ghee’s most sold dessert. Topped with a scoop of ginger ice cream and drizzled with jaggery toffee.”

Havana Harry’s

If you’re in the mood for innovative takes on Cuban and Central and South American dishes, check out Havana Harry’s. This exciting fusion restaurant serves some of the best food in Miami, and it’s hugely popular. But unlike other Cuban restaurants in the city, Havana Harry’s is doing something unique. We spoke to the team to find out more: “For over 20 years and always family-owned, Havana Harry’s has been breaking with the ‘traditional’ Cuban restaurant scene in Miami, FL and innovating the best dishes in the city.

“At Havana Harry’s we not only celebrate classic Cuban dishes but evolve and create fun and delicious cuisine from all across Central and South America. From Cuban classic ‘vaca frita’ to a massive glass of Peruvian ceviche. We love to celebrate food, family, and friends at Havana Harry’s!”

With so many delicious dishes to try, we wanted to know which meals the team would recommend: “Some of our most popular dishes are classics. For first timers, we like to recommend the ‘Special Tostones’, ‘Palomilla steak’ or ‘Garlic pork chunks’. For the more adventurous or experienced patron, we recommend trying a house special. We also strongly recommend saving room for one of our spectacular desserts which include our award-winning flans and crazy milkshakes!”

Andiamo Pizza

For authentic brick oven pizza, look no further than Andiamo. The team knows a thing or two about how to create proper pizza and has even opened another restaurant in South Beach. Since 1954, Andiamo has been serving up its signature pies and now offers single slices. Locals love these delicious handmade pizzas and looking at the menu it’s easy to see why. The ‘Genovese’ includes rosemary potatoes, fresh garlic, pancetta, caramelised onions, mozzarella and gorgonzola, and the ‘New Haven Clam Pizza’ is topped with chopped clams, mozzarella, fresh garlic, capers, red pepper flakes and oregano. Each pizza on Andiamo’s menu is a taste sensation.

La Mar

In the mood for fusion food? La Mar by chef Gaston Acurio serves an eclectic menu of Asian-Peruvian dishes. With a spectacular location overlooking Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline, the restaurant gives customers the chance to experience a completely new and exciting cuisine. Try authentic Peruvian dishes from the grill, empanadas packed full of flavour or Peruvian-style sashimi. The menu is guaranteed to impress.

Versailles Restaurant

Renowned as being ‘the world’s most famous Cuban restaurant’ Versailles Restaurant has been serving delicious, authentic Cuban cuisine since 1971. Locals who emigrated to Florida frequent the restaurant, so it always has a buzz about it. You can expect a menu of all the classic Cuban dishes, from croquetas and plantain soup to Cuban sandwiches. The restaurant has daily specials and so much to choose from, you might struggle a bit! But the staff will be more than happy to recommend their favourite dishes.

DIRT

“Where clean eating and great taste coexist,” says DIRT. Focused on seasonal, organic food, DIRT is the place to be if you’re seeking delicious, ethically-sourced food. It’s also a haven for vegetarians and vegans. Expect loaded burritos with scrambled eggs, pepper jack cheese, sautéed onions, quinoa, pico de gallo in a spinach wrap, matcha pancakes, exquisite burgers with grass-fed beef or vegan options and a varied drinks menu, including Kombucha and creative coffees. DIRT is a totally fresh and exciting dining experience.

Stiltsville Fish Bar

Seafood lovers, rejoice! In the heart of the Sunset Harbour neighbourhood, Stiltsville Fish Bar is serving delicious seafood in a relaxed setting. Locals pop in for top quality seafood dishes and to enjoy the laid-back atmosphere. Try the smoked fish dip with house pickles, thyme and butter toasted saltines, crispy oyster po’ boy or a fresh whole snapper served with lemon basil salsa verde. The menu is a feast for the senses and offers some of the best seafood in Miami.

Coyo Taco

Creating fresh, delicious Mexican street food, Coyo Taco is a Miami favourite. Everything is made to order so you’re guaranteed only the freshest, highest quality ingredients. Even the restaurant’s margaritas are 100% fresh! When it comes to the menu, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Choose the carne asada with char-grilled steak, pico de gallo and queso, the pescado with grilled or fried local fish, citrus slaw and chipotle aioli, the nopales with grilled cactus, quinoa and queso fresco, and lots more. Once you’ve had a taste of Coyo Taco, you’ll be going back for more!

We hope you’re feeling inspired (and hungry!) to try these restaurants in Miami. Do you have any recommendations in the city? Let the world know!
