Our guide to Gourmet Paris at Saint Germain des Prés

Experience a unique side of Paris with French chocolate and pastries. Accompanied by a guide, visit the Saint Germain des Prés district, discovering its cultural and gastronomical wealth during two unforgettable tastings.

With your guide you can stroll through the streets of this lively Parisian neighborhood. Its small book stores, quaint shops, many art galleries, and luxury boutiques make it the very birthplaces of Parisian culture. Explore rue de Buci, rue Saint André des Arts, rue Dauphine, rue Mazarine, and Boulevard Saint Germain, where you’ll find the Maison Georges Larnicol’s award-winning location. This pastry shop was awarded the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Artisan in France) in 1993. As you wander through the area, you’ll hear commentary from your guide as you discover some of the most renowned chocolate makers, pastry chefs and wine cellars in the world: Les 2 Magots, le Procope, Le Café de Flore and others still.

During the tour, your guide will tell the neighborhood’s story through its architecture. See the Sorbonne with its striking dome, and the Théâtre de l’Odéon, a theater that shows the cultural and intellectual wealth of Saint Germain des Prés.

Discover the quarter’s culinary wealth during your first tasting around 2:45 p.m. at a renowned chocolate maker’s shop. Your guide will then tell you about the Church of Saint Sulpice, located on Place de l’Odéon. Then, free time to wander around the Saint Germain covered market.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., you’ll stop at “Un Dimanche à Paris,” a decadent tea house offering a very charming atmosphere within old stone walls with large bay windows. Sit and enjoy a warm drink such as coffee, tea, or hot chocolate or perhaps try one of the delicious house pastry specialties. After this short break, the walk will continue down rue de Seine, where you’ll encounter the workshop of Pierre Marcolini, whose intricate knowledge of chocolate making is known all over the world. You’ll also see one of many Gérard Mulot shops, offering subtle pastries such as macarons, ice cream, chocolates, and other delicacies. The chocolate maker Arnaud Larher is also located on rue de Seine. He prepares chocolate from beginning to end, creating delectable treats, truffles, chocolate bars, and cakes. Walk down rue Clément and rue Mabillon to get an eyeful of a true Tarte Tropézienne. This specialty was created in Saint Tropez by Alexandre Michka, and is concocted using a brioche mixed with two creamy icings and sugar granules to top it off.
