Stunning views and star-gazing...

If you’re visiting Tenerife this year, you won’t want to miss Tenerife’s biggest natural attraction!

Mount Teide is an enormous volcanic crater which stands at a staggering 12,200 feet above sea level in the Parque Nacional de las Cañadas del Teide on the island of Tenerife. It’s also the island’s most popular tourist attraction, surpassing even the incredible Siam Park water park in visitor numbers!  Visitors typically visit to explore the volcano’s other-worldly lunar landscape, to star-gaze or to simply enjoy the stunning views over the island of Tenerife and neighbouring islands in the distance.

There are number of experiences you can enjoy when you book a Mount Teide visit. Here are just a few of our favourites…

Mount Teide by Cable Car

While a hike up Mount Teide can take as much as 6 hours and requires a good fitness level, seeing the volcano by Cable Car is a relaxing and enjoying experiencing which doesn’t compromise on the stunning views. During the 8-minute ride, visitors will spot the unique landscape of craters, volcanoes and rivers of petrified lava – a scene that you wouldn’t expect to see on Earth!

View from Mount Teide

On arrival at the top of the volcano, you’ll find a viewing platform and 3 walking trails to explore this other-worldly landscape with your feet firmly on the ground. This ticket includes skip-the-line privileges so there will also be no waiting around.

At sunset

Sunset on Mount Teide

Make your cable car experience that extra bit special by booking a Mount Teide Sunset Cable Car Ticket. As you approach the summit of the volcano, your views will be enhanced by the beauty of the sun setting as you make your climb. The changing colours from the sunset also have an ethereal effect on the moon-like landscape, changing the colour of the rocks and adding to the stunning spectacle.

Sunset and Stars on Mount Teide

For a truly unforgettable Mount Teide experience, we would wholly recommend the sunset and star-gazing excursion, a full evening experience that will showcase the natural beauty of the island of Tenerife and Mount Teide. You’ll start your evening by taking the cable car up to the summit of the volcano, where you’ll be met by your hosts and a glass of champagne as you enjoy the spectacular views over the island. On clear days you can see as far as La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma.

After the sun sets, you’ll sit down for a cocktail dinner of traditional Canarian food with dishes such as skewered meats, local cheeses, chickpea casserole, samosas, Canarian potatoes and traditional desserts accompanied by local wines or cold beer and soft drinks.

Mount Teide stargazing

Following this spectacular dinner, long telescopes are provided for guests to star-gaze. At this high-altitude, on a clear night you will be able to see some of the most incredible star constellations – a sight which is guaranteed to blow you away.

Mount Teide Tour and Observatory Excursion

The Canary Islands have been identified as one of the best three spots in the world to observe the sky, after Hawaii and Chile. Mount Teide is also home to the most advanced astronomical observatory in the world, which you can visit on a Mount Teide Tour and Observatory Excursion.

You’ll start the tour with a picturesque coach ride up to 2,400 metres, where you’ll learn more about the history of the area and how the islands were formed to create the spectacular volcanic scenery we see today. On arrival at the Teide Observatory, you’ll watch a short video about what you should expect to see and how the telescopes work at night before getting to experience this phenomenal sight yourself.

What to wear and bring for your visit to Mount Teide

  • Some of these tours may include some moderate walking along rocky trails so we advise wearing comfortable shoes suitable for uneven terrain
  • Due to some moderate walking on some tours, consider your fitness levels when selecting certain tours.
  • Always bring a bottle of water with you, Tenerife has a very dry climate in the summer months.
  • For evening tours, make sure to bring something warm along with you, even if the day has been hot temperatures can fall in the evenings!
